Not only was it a great book for learning how to be the ultimate party planner, but Tori also gave us glimpses into her personal life. I loved learning all about how to pay attention to the details of a party with Tori telling us about her parties she has thrown. She even put photos in the book to show just how key the details are.
The only party I am planning is my wedding in 2015. Thankfully I can use some of these tips in this book, since I am doing it myself and trying to be the 'Bargain Bride' about it all. All of Tori's tips in this book can be done by using things you have in your home, you can borrow from friends or family, or get at a bargain price. She may be rich but doesn't put across you need money to have elegance. On the contrary.
Ladies, and even gents who love a good party, and wanna dabble in it, get this book. Seriously.

HASH(0x9df2e30c) out of 5 stars A good read, not overly instructional. April 11 2012
By Ciaran - Published on
Format: Hardcover
(Note: I collaborated with my wife on this review.)

Two parts memoir, one part entertaining manual, celebraTORI is the third book by Tori Spelling that I have been instructed to buy for my lovely wife. There is something about Tori Spelling that we both find appealing - for a woman growing up with stardom and fame lining every wall of her house (and there were many) she seems rather down to earth, and very approachable. My wife and I don't do a whole lot of entertaining (except our regular friends who come over for SNL, wine and cheese), but given our enjoyment of Tori's previous works, we figured it would be worth a read.

As others have mentioned, the content was a TINY bit lacking. There weren't as many relevant pictures or recipes/ideas as one might have expected from this genre, but on the other hand the pictures included were beautiful (I'm a professional photographer and was quite jealous), and the ideas innovative and helpful. There were a lot of anecdotes in the book, so if you are buying this for a list of ideas and not much else, you might be disappointed. According to my wife, the ideas that were in the book were very useful (or "cute" as she put it) and since she enjoys Tori's writing and reading about her life, the book was enjoyed nonetheless. We found the party themes included to be a little too "out there" for our tastes, but no points were taken off due to the subjective nature of party planning. What works for some, may not for others and I am sure that there are those of you who will love "Cowboys and Lace". I appreciated that she has a certain panache in her party-planning, without presenting ideas that would break the bank for the rest of us (she even has a whole section dedicated to budgeting).

All of that said, a whole lot is included this book. From what time to start an event, to what drinks and even what glassware to use, the content was by no means disappointing! Some of it can be a little basic, and some is a little too over the top, but there is something for everyone and you are guaranteed to find a new and exciting idea to try at your next event!

My wife and I both agree that Tori comes across as quite a genuine writer - I didn't feel as though she was writing just for the sake of having a new book out but she clearly enjoys entertaining and doing it in a fun way! Be prepared for a lot of narrative as supposed to instructions and lists, but if your expectations are open enough I really think you will enjoy this book! We only gave it four stars because at certain points we felt as though we were rereading content from her previous titles, and for the fact that there could have been a little more meat in certain chapters. Overall I think 4.5 stars would be more appropriate, but alas we are limited in our choices there.

HASH(0x9df2e714) out of 5 stars LOVE LOVE LOVE Tori! April 20 2012

Ok I have to admit I love Tori (hence the title of my review). What I love about her latest book is how down to Earth she really is (reading her stories you would think she was the mom next door talking about party planning). She has some fantastic ideas on how to make your own party without spending a gagillion dollars (yes that is a real amount). Everything show is tastefully done and she even provides you with some recipes (amazingly enough yes this girl does cook). If you are someone, like myself, who needs beginner information on party planning and plenty of ideas then this book is for you (it comes complete with stories from Tori's everyday life, which is always humerous).

HASH(0x9df2e51c) out of 5 stars I love this book, I just wish there was more.... April 11 2012

I read the reviews before buying this book, and I thought to myself I'm 50/50 on this. But, after much debate, I bought it anyway. And....I'm so glad I did. It's a great party planning book. I found tons of tips, and great ideas.

I do agree with one of the reviwers that there is a lot of time spent telling Tori's story. I think we could have packed this with more information and ideas and made the intro briefer. But other than that - I loved it.

HASH(0x9df2e750) out of 5 stars A Nice Book! April 9 2012

Tori's book is nice. I think from her show it looked like there would be more photos and/or receipies. I think it needs more photos, more recipies, less chatter about her story. I purchased it for party ideas and how to. It's okay but certainly not my favorite "party book." I do love her show though.

HASH(0x9df2eb40) out of 5 stars Tori's sweet personality shines through in this book. Dec 27 2012
By Julia - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Review for "celebraTORI" by Tory Spelling

Tori's personality shines through in this book. She seems like such a sweet person to have as a friend.

To sum up her book in a sentence:

Who: decide on the guest list - who to invite and who not to invite, kids or no kids; Intimate party (less than 15 guests), Medium (15-30), Blowout (more than 30 guests)
What: Seize the day, make it a celebration
When: Choose the time of the party: Brunch (11-1), Lunch, Afternoon (3 or4 pm), Cocktails (6 or 7 pm) , Dinner (an hour later), etc.
Where: Place or venue choices
Why: Pick an occasion: birthday, holiday, achievement, etc.

Parts 2,3 and 4) Getting started: things to mention that she goes over
-) Choosing a theme, a vision, or a concept;
-) Creating a "mood board"
-) Color combinations
-) Limiting the cheesiness factor
-) Invitations
-) Décor
-) Setting the party zone
-) Favors
-) Flowers - Tori's advice, do it yourself and she tells you how

Part 5 and 6) Food and drinks:
-) Some great recipes for drinks here: "Dean's favorite gingerade", "Let them eat cake martini", "Ginger margarita", a "Do it yourself champagne/vodka bar"
-) Food: "Baked brie and jam `n puff pastry", "Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce", "It's meaty lasagna", and "Shepherd's pie"
-) Desserts: "My nanny's famous wine cake", "Tori's red velvet cupcakes"

Part 7) The finishing touches: Music, photo booth, entertainment, conversation starters, arts and crafts

Part 8) The parties ideas - try these four parties as practice:
The cowboys and lace party
The do-it-yourself spa brunch party
The game night party
The cocktails in caftans party

Overall, I was amazed at what an easy read this was. I had picked up the book with the intent to only browse through it. I opened to the first pages and without realizing, I continued to read and turn page after page. When I put it down a few hours later, I was at the credits at the last page. It is written well - very simple, with a great outline, and common sense. Beautiful photographs and layout. Kudos to Tori. I wish her many successes ahead!
