On the first stroke of midnight, ten children, two dogs and a cat enter a haunted funhouse. On their journey through the rooms, they encounter bats and witches and goblins. By the twelfth stroke of midnight, only one brave child is left and he’s about to get a big surprise! This Halloween story is spooky and fun, and just right for young readers.


About the Author

Robin Muller is best known as the Governor-General’s Awardwinning author and illustrator of The Magic Paintbrush, as well as Badger’s New House, Mollie Whuppie and the Giant, Little Kay, Row, Row, Row Your Boat, Little Wonder and most recently, Moon and Star. He is also the author of Hickory, Dickory, Dock, illustrated by Suzanne Duranceau.

I purchased this book for my 5 year old son. The story is about some kids going to a haunted house and being very clear that they are not scared when the clock strikes midnight. On the thirteenth stroke of midnight, however, something very scary happens.

On the first stroke of midnight,
Oh nothing frightens me.
Not a vulture in a dead tree.

This is an easy book to read if you know "The Twelve Days of Christmas." You can sing along. I tried to just speak the words as I read, but I couldn't help myself. I frequently ended up singing the words.

If your child likes Halloween, they will love this book.
