Review

Did you know that there have been UFO sightings in the Yukon and the Northwest Territories? Books on the paranormal are often popular items with all age groups at public libraries across the country. While many books on the topic deal with UFOs from an American or international perspective, The Canadian UFO Report: The Best Cases Revealed provides background into the popular history of UFOs in Canada. Chris Rutkowski and Geoff Dittman's book provides Canadian content in an area where current Canadian perspectives can often be hard to find. The book is grouped chronologically into sections, beginning with The Early Years, which includes pre-20th century sightings and the early decades of the 20th century. It is followed by the Exciting Decades, which details the early post-World War II era until the late 1950s. The Sixties and The Seventies cover significant UFO sightings during these decades, including the Nova Scotia UFO crash, the Landing on Allumette Island and the 1973 Invasion of Quebec. The Transition Years brings in material from the 1980s, such as reports of the notorious Men in Black who use intimidation to guarantee the silence of those who have observed UFO phenomena. Towards the Millennium includes incidents from the 1990s, among which is the Carp Case that sparked investigations in both Canada and the United States. ... And Beyond deals with the early years of the new millennium, with coverage ending in 2004. The final section of the book provides an overview of UFOs in Canadian culture, including a fascinating table of UFO sightings reported in Canada from 1989 to 2004 which suggests that the number of sightings is increasing. The book includes a small number of black and white photographs of sites and materials relating to UFO cases from the 1970s onward. While not specifically marketed as a young adult book, The Canadian UFO Report will pique the interest of many teen readers, making it a useful addition to a public or school library collection. Product Description

The Canadian UFO Reports is a popular history of the UFO phenomenon in Canada, something that has captured the imaginations of young and old alike. Drawn from government documents and civilian case files - many previously unpublished - the book includes a chronological overview of the best Canadian UFO cases, from the very first sighting of "fiery serpents" over Montreal in 1662 to reports from the past year. There are chapters on the government's involvement with UFOs, UFO landing pads, media interest, and even UFO abductions.

What were the "ghost airplanes" seen over the Parliament Buildings in 1915, or the flying saucers seen by military officers over Goose Bay Air Force Base, Newfoundland, in the 1940s and 1950s? Was a prospector burned by a UFO in Manitoba in 1967? Did a UFO crash off the coast of Nova Scotia? Was Quebec invaded by UFOs in 1973? Find out here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colourful Canada, Aug 15 2006
After reading Rutkowski's earlier book, Abductions & Aliens, I knew I had to read The Canadian UFO Report. Neither skeptic, nor believer, Rutkowski & Dittman present an entertaining collection of UFO cases in Canada, some as early as 1662! It was interesting to read about the early reports and the type of media attention they received in the press as well as revisiting some classic cases. Rutkowski & Dittman maintain an overall balanced view allowing that although some sightings are easily explained (planes and planets) others are not so obvious and deserve sincere and scientific investigation.

This book is a wonderful collection of colourful Canada and would be a great addition to your library.
