If you loved Death in Venice (the book and/or the film), you will identify every single reference (from the pathetically obvious to the farfetched) in Dyer's book. This one reads like two short novels in one, which share the same main character (Jeff, whom Geoff, in the acknowledgements, is at pains to make clear is NOT him). The novel is an easy and pleasant read, which one could argue tries to be smarter than it is. Scattered witticisms do not make a text any deeper. Enjoy the light read, beware falling for the pseudo insightful artsy pretentiousness.
