About the Author

KAREN BARNABY has been a professional chef for over 25 years. She is the author of Pacific Passions and Screamingly Good Food, a Cuisine Canada Silver Medal winner. She is also co-author of the Girls Who Dish series and two David Wood cookbooks. Teaching herself to think outside the "bread box," Karen lost 70 pounds on a low-carb regimen, improvingher health energy and confidence.

Wow. This cookbook far exceeded expectations in terms of creativity and taste. The recipes are successful, and ingredients not too difficult to find. Although most recipes are really high in fat, and I don't cook from it every night. It is a wonderful Saturday night meal-guide to entertain with. To succeed with low-carb, variety is important, and this book delivers.

This is an excellent book for low carbers. Some books depend on soy flour to much and for some people, soy can be a real stomach upsetter. Granted you have to get some odder ingredients, but it is worth it. This lady is an excellent chef and her recipes are delicious. As long as you are truly eating low carb, the fat burns off because that is how your system is working.

I have read and owned countless cookbooks in my life. None of them are even close in comparison to this one. I have used most of the recipes at least once so far, and every one has been just scrumptious. Not only that, but the recipes were extremelly simple to follow! I have served many of these recipes for company, and they are always asking for the recipe. I have given several copies of this book as gifts, always with the recipiants being overjoyed. I highly reccomend it to anybody.

To be honest, anything with "gourmet" in the title sounds intimidating to me. I'm a bacon-and-eggs kind of cook. But there's nothing to fear in this book. Read more
