5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, Sep 21 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Amagansett (Hardcover)
I took a customer's advice at the site for Suzanna Clarke's JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL and purchased both AMAGANSETT and Jennifer Paddock's A SECRET WORD, and I couldn't be more pleased by my decision. These are two great American novels that reach far beyond the limits of the American experience. As for Mills' AMAGANSETT, it is set in the 1940s, but don't think it's only for Baby Boomers. It's an intelligent, subtle mystery you cannot put down, even when you put it down. Its hold, I promise you, is subliminal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amagansett, Aug 13 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Amagansett (Hardcover)
Really more of an immense character study (of place), this stellar novel sets itself in post WWII Long Island. Not your average whodunnit, this beautifully written and sweeping saga captures setting, memory, and characters so well that you'll be sorry when you get to the last page.

Also recommended: THE BARK OF THE DOGWOOD
