1.0 out of 5 stars Would you believe "NO STARS"???, Nov 24 2009
By Lorie Finkbeiner (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) - See all my reviews

This is the worst excuse for a novel that I've seen in a very long time. In a postscript, the author claims Elizabeth Turner as her own character -- hardly! I'm surprised that none of the descriptions or reviews I read before borrowing this book from the library (thank heavens I didn't buy it!) mentioned that it's a barely-disguised ripoff of history -- Elizabeth I, to be exact. Elizabeth Turner is Elizabeth I, daughter of Harry Turner (Henry VIII). Much to my surprise, before he died, Harry had six wives: Catherine, Anne, Jane, Anne, Kathy, and Katherine (sound familiar???). Elizabeth's closest advisors: Cecil Williams and Francis Walsington (instead of the historic William Cecil and Francis Walsingham) -- her lifelong love is Robert Dunley (instead of Robert Dudley). We even have a rival for her empire (in the book, this is a corporation rather than a country) in Marie Stewart whose husband Darlay is murdered by her lover, Jimmy Bothwith (again, sound familiar?). This book was worse than disappointing -- it was ridiculous!

1.0 out of 5 stars Being Elizabeth, Aug 13 2009

Bradford should either write books with substance or give up writing novels altogether. This book is just a summary of her last book under a new title. I think she is past her prime. Don't waste your money on her latest books.
