Product Description

From Amazon.com

This comprehensive book explains in lucid, assured terms how to practice the fertility awareness method (FAM), a natural, scientifically proven but little-known form of birth control (which is not to be confused with the woefully ineffective "rhythm" method). Author Toni Weschler has been teaching fertility awareness for almost 20 years, and it's only just now gaining in popularity. As the book explains, by using simple fertility signs including peaks in morning body temperature and changes in cervical position and cervical mucus, it's possible to determine when ovulation is taking place. Fertility awareness is therefore useful for not only couples who are trying to conceive, but for those who are aiming to avoid pregnancy without the use of chemical contraceptives. It will be of special interest to those women who have suffered from infertility; many FAM practitioners have told the author that by filling in the detailed charts in the book, they've realized that they were chronically miscarrying, even when their doctors told them they weren't conceiving at all. As the book explains, by charting body temperature, it's simple to tell when pregnancy has occurred--and when there's danger of miscarriage. Taking Charge of Your Fertility also explains how to choose the sex of your baby by timing intercourse according to certain fertility signs. It also features thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of hormones, the menstrual cycle, and menopause, along with fertility tests and treatments and their long- and short-term side effects, plus a topnotch resource section. Recommended for any woman who wants to better understand her body. --Erica Jorgensen --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Exceptional and a Must have!, Mar 19 2006

This review is from: Taking Charge Of Your Fertility (revised Edition) (Paperback)
I was deeply impressed and pleased with this book. I am a Ph. D in Sexuality and know a lot about fertility and conception. I absolutely agree that the information is essential especially for young women because it will put their mind at ease about several normal, physiological changes that happen within their bodies.

I also agree that the FAM method is better than the “rhythm method” and that’s why I highly recommend it to my female clients. I am happy that this great book becomes more and more popular. It is truly the “bible” when it comes to how the female body functions. I would like to strongly recommend in addition to it Alan Ritz’ “Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex”, which I believe is the equivalent of this book for the male body. Also if your husband has any sexual problems (premature ejaculation, low libido, (semi) impotence and even infertility he will find a lot of first class and science-based information in it. It is pleasure to highly recommend both bestsellers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing resource!, Sep 21 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Taking Charge Of Your Fertility (revised Edition) (Paperback)
This book is amazing! It taught me so much about my own body. I wish someone had given it to me during adolescence, so much more would have made sense. I picked up this book after trying to get pregnant for 6 months. My husband and I really thought something was wrong, we had started to try to time sex for ovulation and it never worked. I started using the book about a week into my cycle and by day 35 I did a pregnancy test and found out I was pregnant! Turns out that by trying to time sex around ovulation using traditional methods we were missing my actual ovulation by more than a week, as I had a really long cycle and short luteal phase (read the book and this will all make more sense). By the end of my cycle we were usually too tired to have sex since we'd been going at it so long, but with this method we identified the fertile days correctly and that was it!

Every mother should give her teenage daughter this book to learn about her body and every couple having difficulty conceiving should read it cover to cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars All girls and woman need to read this book, May 11 2010
By C. V. Sinclair - See all my reviews

After months of trying to conceive, I was frustrated and searching around on the internet trying to find clues to why I wasn't getting pregnant. By luck I came across this book and was reading reviews on it from Google and was so curious and ordered it. This book was so helpful and after only 1 month of tracking fertility signs I got pregnant with my son. This book is so amazing and full of information that sadly I didn't even know! Every single teen girl and woman should read this book!
