Product Description

The Thyroid Sourcebook for Women is an indispensable resource for the one in eight American women who suffers from chronic thyroid disorders. This new edition features the latest research on thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer, and their effect on women's health and lives. It explores the advantages and disadvantages of the latest medications and treatments, while addressing critical concerns for women such as fertility, pregnancy, postpartum thyroid disorder, menopause, depression, and weight gain. It also offers candid appraisals of major alternative therapies.

From the Back Cover

A woman's definitive guide to understanding and coping with thyroid disorders

Millions of women suffer from a thyroid condition; unfortunately, many of them may not know that the cause of their health problems is thyroid disease and so their symptoms often go undiagnosed. The most common thyroid disorders are autoimmune thyroid diseases, such as Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease. And thyroid cancer is the fastest rising cancer among women. Now M. Sara Rosenthal, Ph.D., the most trusted voice on thyroid disorders, is helping women take charge of their health with a new, up-to-date edition of The Thyroid Sourcebook for Women.

This revised and updated second edition includes the latest research and corrects misinformation in other thyroid books. It addresses women's specific concerns about thyroid disease symptoms and treatment, including thyroid hormone therapy and how thyroid disease interacts with other women's health issues, such as pregnancy, menopause, emotional health, diet and weight gain, and other autoimmune disorders.

It answers your most urgent questions, including:

  • Are my panic attacks actually a symptom of too much thyroid hormone?
  • Is my fatigue related to hypothyroidism?
  • Is hormone replacement therapy an option for me?

The ultimate resource for any woman with a thyroid condition, The Thyroid Sourcebook for Women will help you make informed decision about your health in language you can understand.

By Joseph S. Maresca "Dr. Joseph S. Maresca CPA,... (Bronxville, New York USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This is an excellent book which describes classic thyroid
problems and a variety of solutions. Goitrogens are contained
in cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, almonds and fiber.
People living in North America get natural iodine
in their diets. The thyroid makes T3 and T4 cells. The
parathyroid controls calcium regulation. Hyperthyroidism
produces anxiety, diarrhea, easy bruising, increased gland
size, eye problems, exhaustion, heat intolerance and
palpitations, infertility, menstrual changes, muscle weakness,
paralysis and tremors. Hypothyroidism causes cardio changes,
cold intolerance, digestive changes, fatigue, muscle cramps, numbness and autoimmune deficiencies. The Endocrine Society
is listed at 4350 East West Hwy. -Suite 500 Bethesda MD 20814-4410 at Tel 301-941-0200

Overall, this work is excellent for anyone desiring quality
information on the functioning of the thyroid gland. It should
be in every personal health library.
