About the Author
Ragnhild Scamell published her first book, Solo, in 1992 (ABC), but she has been writing stories since she was a little girl in Denmark. Her animal books were written while she lived in a rambling farmhouse in the Kent countryside, and they are all based on real events. Her later books are inspired by the children she has met while working as a volunteer reader and visiting schools and Book Festivals. Ragnhild is the author of Fat Cats (Andersen Press, 2000/Little Foxes, Red Fox, June 2001) and numerous picture books for young readers, including Three Bags Full (illustrated by Sally Hobson, ABC 1993) which was runner-up for the Mother Goose Award. Valeria Petrone is an internationally renowned illustrator of children's books. She began her career in 1987, when she completed her degree in Illustration, and has illustrated a number of picture books and early readers, including Debbie and the Red Devil by Penelope Lively (Mammoth, 2000), Basil and the Babysitters by Joan Stimson (Little Hippo, Scholastic, 1999), The Shark Who Bit Things He Shouldn't by Denis Bond (Read with Little Hippo, 1998), a poetry collection (Give a Little Love, Mammoth) and book covers (Polly and the Wolf series, Puffin).
