Len Deighton's masterful spy thrillers have a timeless quality, and Twinkle has all the distinctive suspense and well-drawn characters he is known for. Daneman has recorded several Deighton titles--newly introduced in the audio format. The dialogue is highly vocalized with a profusion of accents and contrasts to the more matter-of-fact narrator's voice. The unlikely pair of an American CIA major and a British intelligence agent, as well as the Russian defectors are all strongly characterized. The accents somewhat overshadow the subtlety of the intrigue. The timing is compelling, and the story moves at a quick pace with its globe-trotting spies from the Sahara, to America, to Paris and Ireland. R.F.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
