Michael Kramer masterfully portrays retired LAPD detective turned PI Jack Till, who used his professional knowledge to help Wendy Harper disappear when her life was threatened. Kramers sensitive narration balances the compelling action with the intricate relationships of Till and Wendy as well as that of the sociopathic couple chasing them. Perry explores the choices made by his well-developed characters, and Kramer delivers a memorable performance. He handles the numerous characters perfectly, using subtle vocal tones to shift between them. This team is a crowd-pleaser. S.C.A. I have been a big fan of Perry. I have read most of his work and I really love the series with Jane Whitefield, the person who hwlps people to disapear and begin a new life. When I saw that this book had a different character but a similar theme I couldn't wait to read it.

The book is certainly not a bad book but it did not live up to expectations. The main character, Jack Till, is interesting, as is the person he helped disapear, Wendy harper.

But the book also spends as much time with all the characters, the bad guy behind everything, and the paid assassin couple, who, in many ways, were the most interesting characters in the book.

And perhaps that is the porblem with this book. When all the characters are presented equally, it is hard to know where to focus.

And because of the nature of the characters, I found the plot to be somewhat predictable. I usually don't mind predictable plots because I like my stories to be character driven. But when all the characters are presented equally, I had to focus more on what was happenning, rather than on who was doing what and why.

And so I did not stay silent when reading the book, but occasionally groaned.
