The Answer!, Janv. 30 2009
After giving birth to our second son, I became very depressed. I knew I needed help, but knew that medication was not the answer nor group therapy. For me it was a personal matter that I wanted to keep between God and me, and yet I needed some direction. So I prayed a simple prayer, "God, I'm depressed. Please help me." Within a few hours of praying that prayer, I remembered Tim LaHaye's book on my shelf, still unread. I immediately started to read it and continued to do so every time I sat down to nurse my baby. It was nurishment for my soul, revealation for my mind; just after the first 5 chapters, my depression was kicked. I finished the book and realized that not only was my recent post-partum depression gone, but so was the mild depression that I had just accepted and lived with for the last 20 years! Wow!
I highly recommend this book to everyone and anyone suffering from any kind of depression. It is POWERFUL! Here's some important observations, though: I believe it worked for me because I WANTED GOD'S HELP. This book is deep into the spiritual--but spiritual/emotional deliverance does take some understanding about God and His ways. It was a quick read and cure for me, I believe, because I already had a relationship with God and was already familiar with the concept of the Spirit-filled life. LaHaye just helped me see thought patterns that didn't line up with God and helped me develop the right ones. I am confident that this book will help you too. However, if you are starting at square one--if the idea of having a relationship with God is new to you, etc., then you will need to take the book slow, ask God to help you understand it. Don't skip the requirements. If you don't accept Christ,as LaHaye explains to you, then there won't be the power in your life needed to change your thoughts. Likewise, if you don't have the filling of the Holy Spirit, as LaHaye speaks about, you won't be able to make change permanent. This book contains the spiritual truth that can change your life forever. Just take each step seriously, one at a time. Most depression is a spiritual matter, and LaHaye comprehensively and effectively deals with it as such. It's been 4 months since I devoured his book, and I've been living life as never before. You soon can be too!

Desperately needs to get its facts straight, Déc 16 2002
Par Un client
Admittedly, I didn't get through this book. What stopped me was the chapter on the "facts" about antidepressants. LaHaye obviously has a bias against medication, but I would respect him more if he would just admit it rather than dragging out every remotely possible side effect of medications that are not commonly used today. The end of the chapter, discussing Prozac, suggests that it's a new and experimental drug that will likely be as harmful as he claims the ones before it were. Well, Prozac was not exactly new in 1996, at the time of the last revision of this book. In fact, doctors were finding it, along with newer medications, to be safer and just as effective in treating depression. I suspect that LaHaye didn't want to ruin his scary story, but a book that claims to be the truth about depression should at least get its facts straight. Whether to use medication or not in treating depression is a personal choice of every Christian affected, but misinformation about antidepressant medication only complicates the issue. The selective revision of this chapter comes periously close to lying.

Valuable but not for everyone, Mai 1 2001
This book is useful, for those in the majority who in my opinion wallow in self pity when self discipline and G~dly focus is what is the cure. It would be helpful if Dr Lahaye and others would write on the subject, and discuss the problem that caregivers and others who have bouts of depression, simply because the pressues are to much and often we carry the load alone. But Dr Lahaye is correct when he reasons that depression can also be a tool of the enemy or un-g~dly forces who attempt to make people who simply are making poor choices, feel like victims and the viscous circle of victomology begins. I would recommend the book to anyone who has or knows of someone who simply needs honest answers about how to get out of the pity party mode. One may wince at what Dr Lahaye says, but it is my experience that we all need an occasional wake-up call and a wise person who tells us what we need to hear and not always what we wish to hear.
