From Booklist
Daniel writes the grittiest, sexiest, most fully engaging horse-racing mysteries on the market, as he again demonstrates in his fourth effort in the genre in as many years. Philip Glaister, whose first try at running the family racing stable ended in disgrace, is recalled to England from his exile in the south of France to rescue the operation after his younger brother falls victim to a murderous attack. His only chance is to win the season's most prestigious race with a brilliant but infuriatingly erratic young colt, and the odds against that happening are lengthened by some very determined two-legged foes. If the situation seems simple, readers unfamiliar with Daniel should be forewarned that his plots, like his often tortured and always sharply drawn characters, are never predictable. The only sure thing is that the author's considerable number of admirers will not be disappointed.
