From Booklist

The Spanish equivalent of a balloon payment is due on his beloved finca on the island of Ibiza, and affable but feckless former hippie Hob Draconian must come up with 10 grand in a hurry. Soon after he returns to New York to raise the nut, fortune smiles--perhaps too broadly. Hob is told by an old friend that the money is his if he will simply accompany a stunning fashion model to Paris. Blinded by his financial needs, Hob becomes an unwitting drug mule, caught between so-called friends, a corrupt DEA agent, Islamic terrorists, two bizarre, existentialist hitmen, and the Paris police. Bodies pile up as quickly as Hob's note comes due. Sheckley, who has been entertaining readers for decades, is in fine form. The plot is convoluted, the characters engaging, and the denouement, Hob's dramatic return to Ibiza, is wonderfully silly. Public libraries should add Hob Draconian to their list of usual suspects. This review is from: Draconian New York (Paperback)
Funny. Witty. Surprising. Think of any positive adjective and it probably applies to Sheckley's Alternative Detective novels. Sheckley's writing technique is so sharp and his characters so real and engaging that even without the mystery element, these books would be riveting. That there _is_ a mystery that Hob is out to solve makes it all the better.
