Product Description

Few writers have earned a place in readers' hearts as dear as Eugenie Price. Her novels entice us into a vanished world, peopled by characters who immediacy makes their joy, sorrow, heartbreak, and soaring love something we can share and savor. Eugenia Price chose Savannah, Georgia as one of the most fascinating cities of the South, as the setting of a quartet of novels that follow the fortunes of the city and families that gave it life. Orphaned Mark Browning was only twenty when he renounced his father's fortune and sailed to Savannah, his mother's birthplace....and the home of two remarkable women. The first is Eliza McQueen Mackay, his mentor's beautiful wife, whom Mark loves with a deep, pure love that can never be spoken. The other is lovely young Caroline Cameron, whose life is blighted by a secret that has tormented her grandparents for half a century--a secret that affects Mark more closely than he imagines. Desiring one woman, loved by another Mark must confront the ghosts of a previous generation, and face the evil smoldering hate, before he can truly call Savannah his home.

Ingram

The first installment of the Savannah Quartet, a saga by the author of The Waiting Time follows the orphaned Mark Browning home to Savannah, his mother's birthplace, where his affections become divided between two women. Reprint.

3.0étoiles sur 5 OK, but not great, Avril 21 2003

I found this to be a somewhat interesting book, but I kept thinking she was writing it to be a mini-series, not a novel. It feels as if it is an outline for a more interesting story, not the actual story. It did not suspend disbelief and I found myself thinking,"that was a good set-up for the sequel" instead of "I hope there will be a sequel."

5.0étoiles sur 5 Enjoying Miss Eliza, yet again., Fév 8 2002
Par patricia buckner (Clarksville, Tennessee) - Voir tous mes commentaires
I just completed reading Savannah, for the second time. I read it many years ago and loved it then. Recently I was reading Stranger in Savannah and felt I had to go buy Savannah so I could see Mark as a young man again. I find Ms. Price's historical novels educational and entertaining. Savannah, as the Saint Simon's Trilogys, make the reader anxious for the next book about the Mackay and Browning families. The book is well written, historically accurate, and a great read. As with every Price book I've read,I wanted another to read, right away!

5.0étoiles sur 5 Savannah Quartet, Déc 27 2001

(REAL NAME)
I only recently "discovered" Eugenia Price, during a visit to
St. Simons Island, Georgia. I purchased her novel "The Lighthouse" as a souvenir, and became captivated. I have read the entire Savannah Quartet this year, and I highly recommend it. Her ability to weave history with fiction is remarkable. I found myself becoming very involved in the lives of Mark Browning, the McKays and all the other characters (some who lived and some who were "created") in this marvelous series. When I cry for the death of someone, they have become my friend. And so it is with the characters in the four marvelous books, beginning with "Savannah". Their lives, their faith and the history that participated in are captivating.
