"The master of the techno thriller." -Publishers Weekly

Product Description

Dr. James Kegan, a world-renowned scientist specializing in germ warfare, has vanished from his upstate New York home. But this is no ordinary missing-persons case. Kegan has left behind an unidentified dead man with a .22 caliber hole in his skull-and a contact trail that leads to an alleged terrorist cell. Unraveling the mystery is a job for Kegan's best friend, NSA operative Charlie Dean. His mission is to infiltrate the scientist's circle of associates and decipher Kegan's confidential research. Dispatched to cover Charlie is Delta Force trooper Lia Francesca. The trail leads them to the core of a widespread killer fever that's been dormant for centuries-and its link to a virus that's quickly spreading victim by victim. With time running out Charlie and Lia must find Kegan, uncover his secrets, cut a terrorist threat to the quick, and stop the unimaginable outbreak of a new biological nightmare.

2.0 out of 5 stars poor, Jul 8 2004
By A Customer
The only reason I even finished this piece of trash is because I paid money for it. The basis of the story is good, but the execution was absolutely horrible. I kept waiting for some real action, but the real action never happened. This book belongs in the trash, but I may keep it on my bedside table to help me fall asleep on those sleepless nights, as it was one of the most pointless, boring books I have ever read. Because of this book, I may never read Coonts again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Passable, Jul 8 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Deep Black (Mass Market Paperback)
I was looking forward to reading this book and it was a disappointment. It is passable, but that is about it. I did enjoy following the Charlie and Lia storyline. Coonts and DeFelice tried to hard to impress the reader with guns and airplane gadgets and forgot to engage the reader in the story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pass on this one, Jul 7 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Deep Black (Mass Market Paperback)
Worst Coonts ever. Bouncy, paper thin plot. Deep when it is not needed and in depth when you could care less.

5.0 out of 5 stars SCARY STUFF
Realistic portrayal of a threat we may face in the near future. I was iffy on the love story, but in the end the thrills and spills convinced me. Definitely worth reading.
