The storyline for this mystery novel revolves around the current and historical violin industry - violin makers, players, dealers - primarily in Italy. The setting and the main character are well-developed. There are a few minor logic problems with aspects of the story, the most perplexing being (stop reading now if you wish) that halfway through the story, the characters become more concerned about finding a very valuable missing violin, rather than solving the murder of a close friend. This novel felt like a work-in-process and maybe even a bit rushed (did the editor read the story?). All in all a good casual read, but it won't stick with you for a long time.
