5.0 out of 5 stars She paints a wonderful tale once again., Dec 13 1998
By E. Caldwell "E.Caldwell" (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Celestial Navigation is definitely one of my favorite books by Anne Tyler. With her extrordinary talent, she has become the master of modern contemporary writers. There is no one whose books I'd rather find myself reading than hers. Celestial Navigation is simply touching; the character of Jeremy Pauling is moving in his awkward attempt at gaining the love of the woman he so greatly admires. However, don't be fooled. Tyler's stories aren't entirely about love; they are about life and the strength needed to get past the everyday struggles that we all undoubtably face. Anne Tyler's novels are like fantastic jewels, both rare and precious. I only hope that in the remaining books I have yet to read by Tyler, that I find the joy I have found thus far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching story filled with real characters & amazing insight, Jun 19 1998
By A Customer
Though the story is quiet, with little or no action, Tyler has some of the sharpest and deepest inights into human behavior and thoughts that I have ever read. Each chapter is written in the voice of a different character, and each character is absolutely complete, unique and so real. The story is of people getting by, finding their way through their lives, and the writing is magical. Each character, though troubled, is easy to identify with in their own ways. The result is a touching, detailed, and extremely truthful book.

I found Celestial Navigation to be Tyler's best book because it is just so beautifully written as she describes human nature. The little love story is really very cute & the whole story will touch your heart as it twists & turns & you can't help but love this book.It may not be full of interesting events, but it is really a very wonderful book that I can't get enough of & Tyler makes the ordinary so interesting somehow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tyler knows how to let us into character's minds
The most amazing part of this novel is how Tyler describes what's going on inside the characters' minds. I was especially intrigued by how Jeremy's mind worked. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Another set of quirky characters.
Reading her novels is a very voyeuristic experience. In this story, the characters are unusual but sadder. The sense of redemption that runs thru many of her stories is absent. Read more
