5.0 out of 5 stars Ibbotson does it again., Dec 6 2008
This review is from: The Dragonfly Pool (Hardcover)
This is a great story. Ibbotson's protagonists are likeable and believable, though with enough flaws to keep them interesting. Her villains are similarily multi-dimensional, and, as in her other novels aimed at this age group (middle school to young adult, in my opinion) her action rolls right along. Well-researched historical details "anchor" this adventure story in a definite time, though some of the places are imaginary.(But we feel sure they *could* have existed - enough so that we double-checked our map of Europe to try to pinpoint where this *could* have taken place ...)

Predictable ending, we but forgive it because it is so cleverly written, and funny and poignant at the same time.

I won't give any specific details about this story as it would spoil your own discovery of the twists of the plot. If you've enjoyed any other of Ibbotson's many works, this one will be a delight. Eva Ibbotson is definitely continually improving her writing skills, and this latest book leaves me looking forward with anticipation to her next.
