Melville's series features Senior Policewoman Charian Daniels's. Daniels' job this time is to watch over a recently released prisoner, one Joan Dingham, convicted in a series of grisly child murders some twenty years ago. Now the murders appear to have started up again. As a police procedural, this moves along straightforwardly enough; however there are one or two loose ends that never get explained that rankle a bit. The reading is nicely done. Norma West moves you smoothly over somewhat rocky ground in such a way as to allow the story to flow. Her skill with varied accents and character development makes for good listening despite the lack of tension. D.G. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine--
