Medstar I is bound to be yet another great series set during the height of the Clone Wars era. The characters are truly engaging and the author makes you come to care about these brave doctors. They are willing to practice their life saving craft under the threat of a Separatist attack. You get to understand young Jedi Knight Bariss Offee, and the struggle to remain true to the tenets of the Jedi Order amidst the suffering and death of combat. The CD version was a great listen with the narrator conveying the emotions of the characters. He was definitely not one of those monotonous narrators.
If you are going to pick up the book or CD audio, I suggest picking up Medstar 2: Jedi Healer also.

Especially since this book takes us into a part of the Star Wars universe never really explored in depth before. One could call it either an "ER" or even a "M.A.S.H." in space, even though it is much more than both. A fascinating and exciting read, just like: "Stranger in a Strange Land", "Puppet Masters", "Foundation", "2001", "2010", "Rendezvous with Rama", "Ringworld", all the "Star Trek" and other "Star Wars" books, "Advent of the Corps" and other great sci-fi or space operas.

I bought this book expecting good solid writing and possibly really the first original Star Wars novel in a year or so, I was wrong, this book is better then that, it has strong characters and writing, a good concept, great background, and having one of the main characters from Star Wars: The Approaching Storm is a nice touch. The Coverart doesnt really suit the book and mislead me at first from the contents which is following a MedStar unit. (think Star Wars meets MASH) This overall is a great book and I can hardly wait until book 2.
