An obnoxious writer is murdered at a convention of science-fiction fans. The detective work begins more than halfway through; the off-kilter world of fandom drives most of the satiric narrative. Those who know this world will appreciate the roman à clef; others will find the milieu amusingly alien. We would be more amused if the narrator had a lighter, more wicked touch.
