Product Description

"IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN."
--Minneapolis Star Tribune

Teddy Wendover is a hulking twenty-eight-year-old with the mind of a child. An accident at eight left him severely retarded. But did it turn him into a cold-blooded killer?

Someone has bludgeoned Oregon congressman Harry Knecht to death. Knecht was the man who organized the ill-fated field trip that led to Teddy's injury.

Two more murders convince defense attorney Barbara Holloway that there's a broader circle of guilt. Before staging a dramatic courtroom performance, she must sift through dead ends, hearsay, and veiled clues--only to discover that truth is more dangerous than speculation . . . .

"AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS."
--Los Angeles Times Book Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating characters & good relationships, Jun 25 2001
By "wilfulcait" (Bowie, MD United States) - See all my reviews
I'm a real fan of Kate Wilhelm, both because her plots are interesting, and because her mysteries feature adult women who have good relationships with their fathers and healthy romantic relationships that don't make me want to throw the book away cursing their stupidity. Her books are consistently good -- she never disappoints. And her use of language is beautiful.

1.0 out of 5 stars What is all the hype about anyway??, April 23 2001
By lusty22 "avid reader" (VT United States) - See all my reviews
This book was supposed to be one of those that was impossible to put down but I was'nt able to keep it up!! I really tried, thinking it's bound to get better, but let's just say it's not worth the effort. I read a lot of books and I love courtroom drama, but I was not able to even like this father and daughter lawyer duo at all. The plot is so slow and boring. The only other book I have read by this author was her book "The Good Children" and it read like something one would read in high school, which is fine if you're in high school, but I am not. I tried one of her legal thrillers as they are all hyped to be so great but I will not waste money on another. Very disappointing. If you want a great courtroom thriller try a Barbara Parker book.
