Product Description

“The dead don't talk. I don't know why.” But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it’s a curse, Odd has never been sure, but he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice, and Odd’s otherworldly tips to Pico Mundo's sympathetic police chief, Wyatt Porter, can solve a crime. Occasionally they can prevent one. But this time it's different.

A mysterious man comes to town with a voracious appetite, a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world's worst killers, and a pack of hyena-like shades following him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd’s deceased informants can tell him. His most ominous clue is a page ripped from a day-by-day calendar for August 15.

Today is August 14.

In less than twenty-four hours, Pico Mundo will awaken to a day of catastrophe. As evil coils under the searing desert sun, Odd travels through the shifting prisms of his world, struggling to avert a looming cataclysm with the aid of his soul mate and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock 'n' Roll. His account of two shattering days when past and present, fate and destiny converge is the stuff of our worst nightmares—and a testament by which to live: sanely if not safely, with courage, humor, and a full heart that even in the darkness must persevere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why would this happen?, Dec 11 2008

I ordered this book thinking that somehow I missed hearing about a new Odd book. Koontz is my favourite authour and I have never been let down by anything he has ever written...that is...until this book. I did not know until I got the bill that it was a comic and when it finally did arrive I thought It was horrible. It was a reprint of the first book in the series with cartoon illistrations directed more at an audience who reads Archie comics, well, at least Archie comics are in colour. Kudos to the guy who did the illistrations, he is a good artist. But as an avid reader, I want a book to read...not to look at. Sorry to say, but I think this book was a total waste of money and did nothing for the real series. If someone makes a mistake and buys this first, they would probably be turned off of Koontz for life. I kind of feel like he sold out when he agreed to put his name to this. Sorry to those of you who like this type of thing. I certainly am not one of them.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed, Nov 15 2008
I notice that this book says that it is a comic. When I purchased it I did not know that. It was okay reading but quite simple. I have read all of the ODD books and enjoyed them a lot so this one kind of disappointed me in the fact that it was in comic book form. Glad that now they let readers know.

1.0 out of 5 stars a comic?, Sep 15 2009

talk about disapointing and instantly taking me from a good mood thinking that the latest installment of the odd series has arrived in my mail box to a foul mood once I realized it was a comic book. I have no idea how mister knootz got talked into this one but I fired it unread into the garbage. I never thought for one second that I would have to check to see if its a novel or comic book, from now on I will question it before hand. what a waste of money and ordering things on line is to much of a pain to return.
