5.0 out of 5 stars Like People in History, Nov 7 2009
By Luigi Desantis - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I read this book years ago and last summer while in fire island for the first time I thought of it again and had to buy it. I think it is a fantastic read. The characters are so real and the way Felice Picano meshes the events of their lives with the important historical events throughout the novel is fantastic. I highly recomend this book to all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Despite a few inaccuracies, a pretty good read, Jan 20 2007
By John Mundy (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like People In History
I've been reading Felice Picano's work for about fifteen years, and this ranks among his best in terms of concept. His writing is colorful and engaging, and one feels empathy with his characters-- even at those times they veer into caricature. There are a few anachronisms, both in behavior and pop culture reference (Joni Mitchell did not play Woodstock!), but it was fun to relive those heady days before the patriarchy pulled the rug out from under our youthful idealism. The Fire Island scenes are spot on.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, Nov 8 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Like People In History
I read this book right after it came out and fell in love with it. So much so, that I purchased several copies and mailed them to my friends as XMas gifts. While some topical devices are incorrect, this is a great read. When Matt died, I really cried. Allister is the typical bitchy queen one sees so often and Roger seems to be an observer more than a participant in many of the novel's adventures. All in all a great read and one worth making into a film.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Picano's best
Like People in History is really not what I thought it would be. It is grand to be certain. It is epic for sure. But is it really good? No. And this is unfortunate. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Why we need Felice Picano

1.0 out of 5 stars It's trash, and not even good trash.
I can enjoy trash, but it should at least be well written trash. I've read & enjoyed a couple of Picano's short stories in the past and looked forward to enjoying this book... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Like People in Who's History?
I agree with those that said this book is "incredible" -- but not in the overused and falsely positive 90's sense. I just plain didn't believe it. Read more
