5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Gemmell book, May 23 2004
This review is from: KNIGHTS OF DARK RENOWN (Paperback)
This really resembles the Dreni serise in a lot of ways but hey I like it because of the charecters particularly Groundsill and that it proves Gemmell can write a good book and map it up in a single volume and the style doesn't loss any of its punch.

Its a great book good agianst evil all of that and vampires even make an appearance. If you can get the book on CD there is even an interview with Gemmell that explians why he put in the Nomad sub-plot it is quite touching.

Overall-Must read

4.0 out of 5 stars more good gemmell, not the best, May 6 2002
By Clint Smith "silversmith_99" (stillwater, oklahoma United States) - See all my reviews
This book is a good example of a story that was almost but not quite fully developed. The feel of the world is solid Gemmel but it lacks a little of the character development you expect. The magic system seemed a little cliched, (colors red, black etc..) and the ending, after much buildup seemed much too rushed considering this book seems to lack a little in length. Still if your a Gemmell fand and need a fix between newer installments read this by all means and if you are looking for a simple and very good fantasy book that isnt part of a multi-part series give this a look, but if you havent read anything else by this author I suggest you start with Waylander or the stones of power series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Uninspired compared to other works of Gemmels', Jan 4 2002
By Eric V. Garrison (Fremont, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is one of Gemmel's worst. Gemmel started out in his career with the excellent book Legend, and followed up with the excellent Stones of Power Series. In between all this he wrote some mediocre books, if not bad. The character development is nowhere to be seen in this book, and the plot barely involves the main character from the back of the book. There are too many characters and too many situations involved at once, which causes the books meager plot to suffer.

Gemmel, like the great sci fi writer George R Martin, likes to give all his characters a realistic, if not political spin. in this book it has become quite cliched. Main characters hate one another nothing more than the reason that they're just plain there. Necessary development is shortened in weak flashbacks and uneven skips in the plot. The conclusion is abrupt, and quite unsatisfying. As the supposed "main character" isn't really in it. A sentence or two is his conclusion. For a good Gemmel book, try Morningstar or a John Shannow book. Avoid this one at all costs.
