Alan aka Frisco was injured during Alpha Squad's mission into Baghdad during Desert Storm. For the past five years, he's undergone numerous operations and constant rehab for his shattered knee. No one expected him to get out of the wheel chair, but they all under estimated his drive to get back on to active duty. Now Alan is forced to face the fact that walking in constant pain with the aid of a cane is going to be his life. He's been kicked out of the rehab program because he's as good as he'll get. Moving back into his second -floor condo in San Felipe proves more of a challenge than he bargained for; esp. with high school teacher, Mia living right next door. And when his sister gets in trouble and leaves his five year old niece, Tasha with him, he's even more angry and frustrated with his limitations. His sister's trouble finds him and Tasha, putting their lives and Mia's at risk. With Mia's help he rediscovers his self worth and that there is a future for this handicapped Navy SEAL.
Ms Brockmann has done an excellent job of developing Frisco and Mia. You can feel Frisco's pain and frustration and the torment he puts himself through because he feels he has no future. Mia's a perfect match for him. She has a uncanny talent for reading him and seeing his remarkable spirit deep down. Their attraction to one another is potent. Add in the precocious Tasha who doesn't understand what a rule is, and this is a perfectly wonderful read.

His story is a little different from the rest..., Jui 24 2004
Alan (Frisco) Francisco's story is a little different from the other's in the Navy SEALS. Frisco had serious knee injury during his last mission. He has spent the last 5 years in the Naval hospital having numerous surgeries and rehab trying hard to get his knee back into shape so he can rejoin the SEALS. And hs has just been told that it's as good as it's going to get. He is released from the hospital and retired from the Navy (unless he is willing to take that instructor's position that they are holding open for him). He heads to a condo he purchased years ago- the only place he has to call "home" if that's what you want to call it. An apartment with a bed, table and couch- dirty clothes from his last visit over 5 years ago still in the corner, and a 6 pack of beer in the frig. Boy, is he down in the dumps. What is in his future? Well, all he knows is that he doesn't need anyone's help (he thinks).The apartment that has been empty for the past 5 years, next to Mia Summerton, has a light on in it all of a sudden. And Mia is curious. She's a teacher at the local high school and single - and did I mention a "knock-out" to look at with black hair down to her thighs. She gets up the nerve to knock on the door of the apartment only to have a 6'tall, muscular man using a cane in the worst of moods answer it. His charms are definitely not coming through right now. In fact, I think it was lost in the whiskey bottle laying on the floor. The wrong type of sparks fly between Frisco and Mia, Mia trying to be friendly and Frisco thinking he is none of her business. Then Frisco's sister shows up on crutches herself only to leave her 5 year old daughter on his door steps while she admits herself into a detox center. Now Frisco who can't even hardly take care of himself has a 5 year old to take care of. Things get complicated - but fortunately Mia is there to see that help is needed during the impossible times and is still willing to offer a helping hand. Times like just getting the groceries up the stairs to the apartment. Frisco can bearly get himself up the stairs much less carrying groceries with him. Well the story is a good one. It really deals with Frisco's difficulty in accepting that he is going to have to move on... active Navy SEAL is no longer an option and Life is NOT over yet! Unless he wants to end it in a whiskey bottle like his family have done. And Mia sure doesn't need to get involved with someone who has the problems psychological like Frisco has - the physical can be overcome... But she is too good-hearted to just sit and let him suffer and watch his niece suffer too, because she has been uprooted and is unsure of life now. The story is very moving- don't you know that has happened to a lot of veterans that have had to return home with injuries. It is sweet story- one of pride and understanding. Then there is always an underlying story, too. A guy named Dwayne comes looking for Frisco's sister that claims she owes him BIG BUCKS. And he wants his money back now with interest. He roughs Frisco up and claims he'll be back. Now what is the story about Dwayne? Frisco has to recover from knee injuries as well as find out that his niece, Mia, and he are in danger if they don't deal with Dwayne and his hit men. It is something that Frisco can't handle himself in the end and he request his SEAL Buddies to assist him. That's fun seeing all of the guys get back together. Anyway... It's a great story and one worth reading as well as sharing with others.

Alan "Frisco" Fransisco is a Navy Seal who was injured on a mission 5 years ago. He has only ever wanted to be a Seal and does not know how to be anything else. After 5 years and multiple operations he is told his knee will never let him be able to back out in the field and is devastated. He retreats to his condo on the California coast. He needs no ones help and feels that the Navy has given up on his though he is offered a teaching position.Mia is the freethinking peace-loving neighbor to Frisco who is drawn to him, though he is to stubborn for his worn good. The second day Frisco is at the condo his sister drops his niece off as she goes off to detox. Frisco knows only that he loves Tasha with all his heart but not only is he in no mental condition to take care of a 5-year-old girl but is not even sure how to do it. When Frisco's sisters ex-boyfriend comes to demand money from Frisco's sister things start to get dangerous. You will follow the characters as they try to stay alive, get kidnapped, and as Frisco finally asks for help, and Mia and Frisco falling in love. Note this book was originally published as a Silhouette Romance. Not bad but her recent ones are ALOT better!
