Product Description

From Library Journal

Those effervescent sisters from Birmingham, big Patricia Anne and little Mary Alice, strike again (following Murder Makes Waves, LJ 7/97). While snooping into the backwoods background of Patricia's son's intended, they discover a dead body in the family trailer. Great fun!

From Kirkus Reviews

Those Alabama sistersMary Alice (Sister) Crane, unattached after three marriages, and Patricia Anne (Mouse) Hollowell, happily married to Fredare again involved in murder and misery, this time very close to home (Murder Makes Waves, etc.). Sister's son Ray, who leads diving expeditions off his boat in Bora Bora, has married Sunshine Dabbs, of the Turkett clan in Locust Fork, not far from his mother's home. Sunshine won the trip to Bora Bora on Wheel of Fortune and has now returned home, soon to be followed by Ray and his boat co-worker Buck Owens. The sisters, sneakily checking out Sunshine's background, find her family's encampment of trailers and, in the one belonging to Grandma Meemaw, stumble over the body of a man stabbed to death. Meanwhile, Sunshine has vanished, leaving behind a bloody nightgown. The corpse is of one Dudley Cross, who dressed up as an Indian chief and cadged change at the entrance to Crystal Caverns. Sunshine's mother Kerrigan is a porn star; her grandfather Pawpaw has his own trailer, as do her brothers Howard and Eddie. While a heat wave sizzles and Sheriff Reuse flounders about, there's a phone call from Sunshine, followed by occasional sightings. Not until the sisters are kidnaped does a powerful murder motive surface, and their mettle is once again tested to the max. The plot rambles off-focus for much of the time and limps to its less-than-riveting conclusion, but characters and conversation are the thing here, and the author manages to keep both robustly entertaining. Fresh and funny. -- Copyright ©1998, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Funniest Mystery Series Ever!!, April 2 2004
By K. A. Stevenson "WIAPilot" (Tucson) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"Murder Gets A Life" is the 5th book in one of the funniest mystery series ever written. Anne George has left a WONDERFUL legacy. Her books are not only hilarious in dialogue, but the mystery plots are really, really GOOD.

The Southern Sisters Mystery Series stars our two 60-ish siblings, Patricia Anne (retired schoolteacher, reserved, happily married to Fred for 40 yrs., petite) and Mary Alice (250+ lbs., a foot taller than Patricia Anne, rich after burying three husbands, brassy, bold, and impulsive). The dialogue that ensues between them is priceless!

In "Murder Gets a Life," we find that Mary Alice has met her match with Meemaw. Mary Alice's son, Ray, has married a cute little Barbie doll named Sunshine down in Bora Bora. Unfortunately, Sunshine's relatives are "as common as pig tracks." Her Grandmother, Meemaw, is even giving Mary Alice a run for her money!

As uptight Sheriff Reuse tells Mary Alice when he learns whom she has inherited as in-laws - "There IS a God!"

You will LOVE this series. I highly recommend that you buy them ALL and read them in sequence. You will not regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Jul 6 2001
By A Customer
Anne, if you read this reviews, I just want you to know that you have become my new favorite author!

I discovered one of Ms. George's books sort of "by accident" at the library and loved it -- the characters, the plot, and of course the humor, which is truly laugh-out-loud (it's not just a cliche). I immediately went to Borders and bought all the "Southern Sisters" books I could get my hands on.

In a world where "New York Times Bestsellers" disappoint more than not, it's wonderful to discover an author like this one. She's a treasure.

1.0 out of 5 stars has to be careful for words, Mar 5 2001
By A Customer
Actually, I enjoyed this story mostly. Good entertainment. But just one, but big point. She should not have made fun about an atomic bomb. It was no fun at all, especially for Japanese. I am not a fastidious person and the author can write anything on her book. Just shocked.
