-- Romantic Times

"She creates fairy tales that come true."

Product Description

Headstrong heiress Sharisse Hammond wants no part of the New York society marriage that has been arranged for her. So she heads west across a vast and dangerous land -- with no intention of honoring her agreement to become the mail-order bride of a rugged Arizona rancher.

But Lucas Holt needs a wife -- any wife -- if his plan to destroy his most hated enemy is to succeed. And this gullible Eastern lady would do quite nicely. However, their separate schemes to use one another are complicated by raw, aching passion. For Lucas's beautiful, unsuspecting pawn was not supposed to be so irresistible alluring. And freedom-loving Sharisse never dreamed she could ever desire one man so much!

5.0 out of 5 stars Which Twin Do You Prefer?, Jul 15 2004
By Dakota "daxydakota" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
"Tender is the Storm" is a clever Western romance that involves a mail-order bride from New York and the gorgeous horse trainer in Arizona who sends for her. Both have big secrets.

I really enjoyed this book and its personable characters. The heroine, Sharisse, has NO idea what it's like to rough it in the desert as she's accustomed to maids doing everything for her, including removing her clothes. It's hysterical to see her attempt to cook. As for the Holt brothers - yummy. Identical twins, one is charming and easy going, the other an ominous gunslinger. It's fascinating to realize that Sharisse wants them both!

The plot is straightforward, though there are twists aplenty. I read it in one day, and realized it was just as good now as it was the first time I read it more than 10 years ago.

FYI: Other great Westerns romances by Johanna Lindsey include "A Heart So Wild" and "Heart of Thunder," as well as the marvelous "Savage Thunder."

4.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Ending!, April 2 2004
By A Customer
This is my second Johanna Lindsey book and I really enjoyed it...At first however it was a bit slow for me to climb in to but then I don't typically read a western type historical...but once the details were in place and the characters met, the story soared! The chapters flew and it never lagged... I found my self intrigued by the clever lies each was telling the other in the name of self preservation... I never found their deceptions to detract from the core fact that these two were truly falling in love with each other and their true identities...because you can only conceal so much... actions will always speak louder than words... And I have to say the ending was SO clever! And it all made sense... I love it when I can read a book and be as surprised as the character as they experience the twist!
I am very eager to move on to another of her books...MindyL

1.0 out of 5 stars A four letter word that rhymes with thumb, Feb 18 2004
By A Customer
My goodness what an awful read. I was so very disappointed. The heroine is beyond stubborn, selfish, self-centered - needless to say, I did not like her. The hero - I started out thinking he was ok, but he deteriorates quickly. I absolutely hate it when they "reveal all" in the last 2 or 3 pages of the 370 or so page book. What a disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every minute!!!
I loved the story of Sharisse and Lucas. I felt so terrible for Lucas because of what his family went through. The end was superb and worth the wait. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful love story - first class Johanna Lindsey
This book is Johanna Lindsey at her best: the characters, Sharisse and Lucas are engaging and fun, and the reader easily begins to care about what happens to them. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A Love Story to Remember

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable
With romance novels, the ending is never a surprise, so I read these books more for the journey than the destination and Lindsey always makes it worthwhile. Read more
