1.0 out of 5 stars Stick to True Crime, Oct 25 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Possession (Mass Market Paperback)
Anne Rule should stick to true crime, I purchased this book thinking it would be a great read and I got very bored with it. The story is vaguely familiar and it just didn't flow right. At the end, it seemed that even Ann bored of it and had to finish it off somehow. It reads more like a male sex fantasy and the female character is so weak that she succumbs so easily kind of threw me. I thought the story would be more like "Kiss the Girls" where the victim has to fight to live and overcomes the horrendous fear. It just left me feeling that it was a waste of time reading it. It was meant to be a psychological thriller but it didn't achieve that for me as an avid true crime reader. I've read better from her and I was disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hated it, Jan 14 2006
By Stephen L. Mitchell - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Possession (Mass Market Paperback)
These characters were stereotypical and two dimensional. The wife who’s never had an orgasm (btw, daddy was a firefighter killed in the line of duty.) A he-man small town cop husband who may not be able to have children, (but is so insecure in his masculinity he resists having tests to find out.) His alcoholic partner bounced from the big city department and comes to the small force where we was always in trouble. A giant of a bad guy who’s spawned from a family that was never wrapped tightly, looking to replace the love of his murdered mother. All this spiced with lurid, unbelievable sex scenes to try desperately to save the story. I was quickly wishing they would all die to stop their constant whining and insecurities. I’ve read some poorly written books, but this one is near the top of that list.

2.0 out of 5 stars I prefer Ann's true crime books, Oct 9 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Possession (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a very big fan of Ann Rule's true crime books. When I bought this book I thought it was another true crime story because the spine of the paperback version is labelled "Non-fiction" and the book was in the True Crime section of the bookstore. I was really disappointed when I realized that it was a novel. It wasn't a bad story but certainly wasn't as interesting as Ann's true crime books. I still love and respect Ann Rule as a writer but hope she'll stick to true crime.

I am the first to tout Ann Rule's writing and investigative brilliance, but this writing was NOT her finest hour. It read like a bad Harliquin sex novel, only longer! Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable and riduculous but love your nonfiction!
Found the story hard to get into, and the author did not seem to be sure where she wanted to go with this story. Too much explicit violence, etc. Read more
