4.0 out of 5 stars A fine tale !, Feb 12 2008
By Luc Longtin "eureka" (Québec, Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a fine tale of sci-fi from the creator of the original "Dune" novels.

The setting: The galactic empire, some hundred years after a devastating conflict (Rim Wars) shattered it, is rebuilding and rekniting. Lost planets are being rediscovered and reeducated (by enforcing peace, if necessary) in order to prevent a repeat of the Rim Wars.

The protagonist: Lewis Orne, driven by his oath to "seek out and destroy the seeds of war", will face several challenges that will bring him, at last, to face the summons of the godmakers of Amel, the priest planet. There, Orne will face an ordeal that can destroy him or make him a god.

The story, quite humorous at times, involves several interesting characters and deals with some philosophical/scientific/spiritual issues.

Well worth the read, quite recommended !

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, if awkward, May 29 2004

This review is from: The godmakers (Paperback)
Frank Herbert asks interesting questions, here, but the writing seems a little awkward, as though he were unsure of how to communicate his awesome ideas. While the writing here is not as good as it eventually became, and some of the story is awkward, it is well worth reading. If you're a Herbert fan, then you should enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars To clear up the confusion, Dec 10 2003
By A Customer
Some are confuded about the references some of these reveiws have to Mormonism. This book does not discuss Mormonism, the book that they are refering to is a book by Ed Decker and Dave Hunt which has the same title.
