Book Description

Commander Amanda Lee Garrett leads a United Nations naval force into a high-tech war-at-sea in this new addition to a series hailed by Kirkus Reviews as "first-rate military suspense."

In Sea Fighter, Garrett heads a U.N. task force made up of units from Great Britain, France, and the United States. Her mission: halt a rapidly escalating African civil war. A renegade Nigerian general has invaded Sierra Leone and Guinea and is determined to establish a new "West African Union" no matter the human cost. Garrett's only hope is an arsenal of untested weapons including a flotilla of fast, heavily armed stealth hovercraft specifically designed for a deadly coastal seawar and a gigantic ocean-borne fortress that can be anchored off an enemy's coast, literally at the doorstep of their capital city.

Cobb, "a military buff par excellence" (Publishers Weekly), has crafted another riveting tale featuring one of the most original characters in military fiction and the state-of-the-art technology and strategy the U.S. Navy will almost certainly one day employ.

Reviewers called James H. Cobb's first two Amanda Lee Garrett novels, Sea Strike and Choosers of the Slain, "breathtaking," "lightning-paced," and "hot as a Sea SLAM missile with target lock" (Library Journal). Murder Ink even named Garrett "the best naval hero since Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan."

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars third installment for Amanda great!, Nov 17 2006

I am recently new to discovering this Series from Cobb. Just finished reading Sea Fighter and I loved it. Yes it was long, but the longer the better for me. Great action, characters and I love James's attention to details, especially during the action sequences and the techno-babble stuff.

Being as I am ex-Canadian Navy, I can certianly relate in some small fashion to the technology, procedures and tactics that Cobb deploys in these stories.

Wonderful job and I can't wait for his next new Amanda Garrett Series book to come out, hopefully next year.

3.0 out of 5 stars A slight disappointment..., Sep 9 2003
By Brendan Waite (Nanzhang, China) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sea Fighter (Paperback)
As an avid reader of Amanda Garretts previous sorties I found this too be somewhat lacking. Or perhaps it had that little bit too much. The long-winded telling of the backstory, which although necessary given the relative obscurity of the area, seemed to me to take away from the book more than to add to it. If they had been slightly briefer this book would be up there with the first two, and now Target Lock, as it is it doesn't quite make it. It is an enjoyable read, but I do miss the Duke, but many of the new characters of the SeaFighters help to make up for this. I loved the Little Pigs Logo/Beret!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Ready by James H. Cobb!!, Mar 20 2003
By Erik Weikum "eaweikum" (Lansing, MI United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sea Fighter (Paperback)
Camped on shore while the Cunningham under goes repair from the battle damaged gathered in "Sea Strike," Amanda Garret is given a new and dangerous challenge. The Ivory Coast of Africa is on fire once again as a man with a vision for the future takes matters into his own hands. He is a man who wants to help the people of Africa but he at the same time wants to do so through the conquest of multiple countries. The UN decides to step in to do something about it. America's answer to that call is the Sea Fighters and Amanda Garrett. Away from the terrifying fire power of her destroyer Garrett has to depend on new and untested weapon systems and the learning curve just turned deadly. Mr. Cobb's third Amanda Garrett Novel is a Smashing Success!!!
