Robin Cook has written some excellent books, but Intervention is not one of them. Not by any stretch of the imagination. The writing is some the worst I've read in a long time, and I can't help wondering how this ever survived editing by his publisher. Do not waste your time or your money on this disaster of a novel.
Rather than detail the fatal faults of this work, I would prefer that readers seek other of Cook's novels instead. Any one of which will likely prove satisfying. Intervention, on the other hand, is best forgotten. (And don't be tempted when it finds its way into the remainder bin at bargain basement prices; any time spent reading this book will be wasted. It's really that bad.)

I have to agree with the first reviewer. It is terrible. I love all of Robin Cook's books, however, this one is bad.

The story starts out well; Jack and Laurie's son was born with a rare form of infantile cancer. Jack is devestated, and can hardly work as his stress level is so high. One of his cases involves a woman who has died after visiting a chiropracter and Jack is determined to find out exactly what has happened. He visits the chiropracter and the story gets interesting. However, there is a parallel story about a former friend of Jack's who is in Egypt and discovers some ancient artifact which is totally boring and unrelated to the medical story. I found myself skipping the chapters of the artifact story and just (trying) to read the chapters on Jack's story. If it weren't for this parallel story, I think the book would have been a great story, as is usually the case with Dr. Cook's books. I strongly recommend "Foreign Body". This book by Dr. Cook was great; a great story and you learn about Indian culture too.
