Book Description

"A 'must-have' guide for the devastated couple dealing with the many questions and fears that occur with a subsequent pregnancy." --Candace Hurley, Executive Director/Founder, Sidelines National Support Network

For a woman who has experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of an infant, conceiving another child can be fraught with mixed emotions. This guide, filled with up-to-date medical information and written by a woman who herself experienced a successful pregnancy after the loss of her first baby, can help women cope with their anxiety. It offers guidance for women asking such questions as: * Why did it happen--and how can I make sure it doesn't happen again? * Will my next pregnancy be considered high-risk? * How long should I wait before getting pregnant again? * What can I expect at prenatal exams? * Will I ever be able to love another baby as much as I love the one I lost?

Pregnancy after a loss can be a time of great emotional upheaval--but also, a time of healing and hope. With this sensible, sensitive guide, women can put their minds at ease--and learn to look forward to the future as they make peace with the past.

"Compassionate and comprehensive." --Perry-Lynn Moffitt, coauthor of A Silent Sorrow: Pregnancy Loss

* Contains up-to-the-minute medical advice and information
* Unlike other books about pregnancy loss that focus solely on the grieving process, Pregnancy After a Loss helps women to prepare, both psychologically and physically, for a new pregnancy

4.0 out of 5 stars Pregnancy After A Loss - - An insightful book..., Mar 27 2009
By L Manhas (Canada) - See all my reviews
At 34 weeks gestation my little girl's (Elizabeth) heart stopped beating. This was my first pregnancy and my husband and I did not foresee something like this happening. This book was recommended to me not because I was pregnant again, but instead the individual who recommended it to me said it helped her with her emotions through her loss. I am so thankful it was recommended! It is an easy read that you get consumed with. It travels through all of the emotions your are going through after a loss and it also touches on the emotions you are feeling about getting pregnant again (and on how you will feel should you try for another pregnancy). The only thing I would have hoped for (perhaps the author should write another book) would be more on how the male counterpart feels with the loss and how to help them cope with it. Should this tragedy happen to anyone I know, I would recommend the book to them (but I hope it doesn't happen to anyone at all).

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfort, Mar 9 2005
By Tara (Canada) - See all my reviews
To start, I want to say I would recommend this book to everyone who has suffered a loss and is pregnant. C. Lanham covers every single feeling you might have and talks about them honestly. After receiving several self help books, along with advice from people who had NO idea what I was going through, this book offered me some comfort. I hated every book I read about infant loss and I resented every person who thought they had something wonderfully new to help my husband and I through our loss. After almost a year of trying for another baby, we finally got pregnant -- along with this pregnancy was fear and the grieving did not automatically stop. I did not suddenly want to see other's babies. I had many feelings and emotions, and this book was amazing. During our loss, I was tired of being told we were "normal" to feel the way we did. That was of NO comfort to me. Suddenly, being told I was normal when I had many strange thoughts and feelings (at this stage... after finally being pregnant again) and being told I was normal WAS a comfort to me. Thank you Carol Lanham for writing this book and helping me through a difficult time. Even my parents don't understand about what I am feeling and how I am acting. I have asked them to read parts of this book to help them understand. I would recommend it to everyone.
