Betsy Taylor--former model, newly unemployed secretary, 30, and still single--wakes up after being flattened by a small SUV in a tacky coffin wearing cheap knock-off shoes. Her mother is glad she is back, albeit as a vampire, but her stepmother is enraged that Betsy has reclaimed her designer-shoe collection. With a wealthy best friend and a newly acquired doctor pal who is not susceptible to her formidable allure, she sets out to right wrongs but is abducted by Nostro, a tacky 500-year-old vampire who rules the undead roost. It seems that Betsy is an anomaly: a vampire who doesn't burn in sunlight, can fight the urge to feed, and is not repulsed by religious articles, all of which may make her the prophesied Queen of the Vampires. Teaming up with gorgeous vampire Eric Sinclair, who is in her opinion a major pervert, she takes on Nostro and his minions. After reading the reviews of "Undead and Unwed", I expected the book to be a funny mix of chick-lit and fantasy. While the book can accurately be called chick-supernatural, it failed in the humor department. Davidson, the author, tried too hard to be witty. The first three chapters have more exclamation points "!" than I have ever seen before in my life. (really!!)

The main character, Betsy, was unlikable. It's like Davidson took Carrie from Sex in the City, dumbed her down and took away everything that makes her interesting--then made her a vampire called "Betsy".

This book isn't worth the time or effort. Read Kelley Armstrong or Tanya Huff instead of this series. Save yourself!

I am a big fan of both irreverent vampire stories (like Buffy) and chick lit. This seemed like a nice mixture, but it was a struggle for me to finish it. I found the heroine so grating, the dialogue so ridiculous, and the humor so unfunny it was painful. Jokes like calling Sinclair "Sink Lair" were not funny to me the first time, and by the tenth, well, I was nigh homicidal. I see the intent, but for me it fell alarmingly flat.

That said, there are so many positive reviews that obviously I am in the minority. My suggestion would be that you check out a few pages of it before you buy. If you find her sense of humor entertaining, then you'll enjoy the book. If not, well, put it back down, as I wish I had. Your mileage may vary, as always.

This book is delightful! I would consider it to be a chick lit, but an excellent one. For all of those who like to read for entertainment purposes, this is it! It is well written and the sense of humor is excellent, I highly recommend it.
