4.0 out of 5 stars
Quick Dissection, Aug 7 2008
Alpha and Omega - The writing is engaging, the story involving, and both Charles and Anna are interesting, sympathetic characters. My only issue is that 72 pages wasn't enough; I wanted more. Fortunately, their story continues in Briggs's Cry Wolf.
Inhuman - The details about the supernaturals and their nature is pivotal to the story, but very slow in coming. I spent a more time than I would have liked trying to figure out what exactly was going on, because I had very little information to go on. The slow reveal was intentional, but I found it more frustrating than intriguing in this particular case. There are some really interesting ideas here, but I felt like I didn't really get to hear much of them, because the author was so busy trying to catch my attention by not telling me what was going on.
Buying Trouble - Fast-paced and fantastical, Buying Trouble is a fun read. Claire is a strong personality, a rather resourceful woman who takes what's thrown at her and just keeps rolling as best she can. Heidar, the mysterious Fey, is a likeable character in his own right, and the banter between the two of them is fantastic. My main nit to pick is actually the ending. The pace disintegrates, and the last few pages I felt I was being told what happened rather than experiencing it with the characters, which is a shame, because the rest of the story was so vibrantly written.
Mona Lisa Betwining - I enjoyed the darker tone and some of the concepts in Mona Lisa Betwining, but the language and some of the descriptions bothered me a little. Sunny has a tendancy to use more words than she needs to, and some of her phrasing is downright redundant. ("It was not what I wanted. It was not what I desired.") There was more sex than plot, and while I have nothing against sex per se, I had expected more of an actual story in an anthology of urban fantasy stories.
I liked some of the stories more than others, and the overall combined average grade is 3 1/2 stars, with some of the stories rating higher, some lower.

This gets three stars because the author "Sunny" is a freakin' HACK.
"Alpha and Omega", the first story by Patricia was great. I've never read her novels, but I may just give them a shot.
"Buying Trouble" by Karen Chance was my favourite -- very evocative prose.
"Inhuman" by Eileen Wilks was decent, though not my favourite.
To the reviewer below me -- you're a moron. clearly you cannot read to begin with else you would have known off the bat that this was a short story collection -- what with the names of four different people in large typeface on the front cover and all. Stupid.

Good place to find new authors!, Mar 19 2009
This was the first book I picked up with a story by Patricia Briggs and I was not disappointed. I read really fast and I'm always looking for new interesting authors and that's why I often buy the short story books, it gives me an idea of their writing skills and their story telling.
Alpha and Omega - Anna and Charles are amazing they are a great duo, Anna is so complex and unique, I fell in love with her in the first few pages. Charles is a loner, a dangerous loner but he is also compassionate which make him a interesting mix. Let's just say I was happy that Cry wolf was already out because I went to buy it before reading the 3 other stories.
Inhuman - I tought it was confusing at first and I scratched my head a couple of time trying to understand some parts of the story but at the end you get the whole picture and it makes for a great story. It made me buy Eileen Wilks' lupi series which is not as good has Patricia Briggs' werewolfs world but I still enjoyed it. We even get to follow kai and Nathan in the 4 book.
Buying Trouble - I thought it was great, full of action, surprises and a great ending. Karen Chance as a way of putting you in the main character's place and boy it's a crazy ride! Her Main character is Cassie Palmer but we do hear about Claire in her spin off called Midnight's Daughter which is also great! Who does not like a world full of sexy vampires and hot elfs :D.
Mona Lisa Betwining - I can't say I enjoyed this one, I felt like I was thrown in the middle of a story and that most of it made no sens. There is a lot of sex scenes and Sunny puts a lot more details in those scene that she puts in the rest of the story or characters for that matter.
I loved the first 3 authors, they where able to captivate me with only a short story and because of this book I not only found my favorite author (Patricia Briggs) but I also found three new series to follow.
