Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Mary Elizabeth's summer job at the health club of a ritzy hotel would be just about perfectexcept for a series of eerie incidents that occur when she is alone by the pool at night. Convinced they are related to a series of robberies plaguing the hotel and its guests, she tries to figure out the linka mission of increasing urgency once she discovers a corpse in the pool. By the end of the story, Mary Elizabeth has exposed a circle of thieves headed by her own boss, a group said to have links to organized crime. This is a moderately suspenseful mystery, rounded out with touches of humor and romance, but not one of Nixon's best. There are too many glitches in the complicated plot for it to be fully convincing. The protagonist's foolhardy ingenuousness strains credibility: she discusses events related to the case freely, even after it seems likely an insider is involved. The relationship between the thefts and the syndicate is never really clear, and the revelation that drug deals are somehow involvedwhich would justify the otherwise inexplicable violenceis tacked-on, vague and ultimately unpersuasive. Ages 12-up.

Product Description

Liz enjoys her summer pool job at the glamorous Ridley Hotel.  Until the night, a dark and lonely night, a ghasty shadow surges up from the pool.  A face -- eyes wide, mouth gaping -- stares at Liz.  A hand clutches at her sneaker.  Then it, whatever it is, is gone.

But danger isn't.  Strange things are happening at the hotel, and a shaken Liz wants to know why.  But whoever is behind the trouble will stop at nothing -- even murder -- to get what he wants...

4.0 out of 5 stars the dark and deadly, Mar 18 2004
By A Customer
This book si full of mystery and you well never guess who the person is behind the crimes. The story is interesting and exciting a real thriller. Girls ages 12-16 will like this book.

This book is about a teenager named Mary Elizabeth, a tall, clumsy girl, gets a great job at the Ridley Hotel as an assistant at their health club. On her second day Liz sees a figure in the pool. The figure swims up to her and grabs her shoe, then swims away. Ever since then things have gone missing. Things like meats, sliver, furniture, paintings, and vases seem to disapear. Liz now knows a lot of people at the hotel but is any of them the person behind the crimes?

The person I thought who was behind the crimes was Lamar, the head of security but it really was... oh I can't tell that. You will have to read "The Dark ad Deadly Pool" to find out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ms Bs reading, Oct 9 2003
By A Customer
This book was very interesting and a good thriller. Joun Lowery Nixen is a good writer but her books are for younger people. It was cool how she made certain stuff at just the right time. Its like just when you thougt it was going down, something even more suspensful happens. But this book was very good but its action and the charactors reactions could of been a little better. Other than that it was an awsome book. I would love to read another one of her books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Oct 5 2002
By Jaci (Texas) - See all my reviews
This book was wonderful. I couldn't put it down. It's easy to relate to Liz which makes the book even better because you can put yourself in her position.

It's basically about Liz working at a hotel for the summer when she finds a body in the pool and meets Fran. While Liz tries to solve the murder and figure out the "conductor of the orchestra" she also has to deal with Fran having a crush on her, he's short and she 4 inches taller. I can't tell you anything else of it would ruin the story.
