Product Description

"I will wed only my one true love!" declared Princess Brianna despite King Henry's decree that she marry one of the sons of the man who had conquered her family's castle.  So Brianna issued a seemingly impossible challenge: He who returned with a gift that made her laugh would win her hand.  And thus began the bride quest of the three brothers Fitzgavin. . . .

Burke and Rowan, knights both, set out at her command.  Only Luc remained, refusing to indulge the whims of the glorious Irish princess.  Even Brianna's legendary beauty could not tempt him--until she invaded his senses .  .  .  and his soul.  But Luc thought a princess had no place in the life of a battle-weary warrior who vowed to lay down his sword forever--until he was forced to take up arms to protect the fair maiden who had seized his heart by divine right.

Ingram

Decreed by King Henry to marry one of the Fitzgavin brothers, Princess Brianna ordered a Bride Quest. He who returned with the gift of laughter would win her hand. Burke and Towan, knights both, leave at her command. But Luc, a knight who laid down his sword for a ploughshare, was determined to stay out of the quest and continue his solitary life. Though the glorious Irish princess tempted him with kisses and roused passions he tried to deny, Luc thought there was no place for her in his life, until he was forced to take up arms to protect her.

4.0 out of 5 stars My first Delacroix read...and it won't be my last., Aug 23 2002
I really enjoyed this book. The author could have made it very serious and heavy (and she sometimes gets close to that in parts) but she keeps it lighthearted. It was funny to read what the brothers would bring to make her laugh. I wish Luc's would have been more creative. The tone of the story was more like a fairy tale then serious historical depiction. There is one part of the story that just didn't seem to flow, it was almost like an after thought. At the end, after they are married, for some reason Brianna gets it in her head that Luc married her just for the seal and that he doesn't love her. Brianna was smarter than to truly believe that so it seemed out of place and out of character.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my type of story, May 16 2002
By "murrayj51" (Baton Rouge, LA United States) - See all my reviews
I was really looking forward to this book, and the entire 'bride quest'series, but I didn't like most of the characters in 'The Princess'. I found Brianna a lukewarm heroine at best, throughout the book her childish efforts to deliberately misunderstand everything happening around her were exhausting. I did like the hero, Luc, and Ms. Delacroix wasted a fine character by inserting him into this slow-moving story. By the time the murders began, I was scanning each paragraph for the main idea and wishing the action would speed up, or the whole thing would just come to an end. Although I didn't like this story, I am going to try again with 'The Damsel' and 'The Heiress' and see if the 'bride quest' gets any better.
