Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Although better known for her historicals and her numinous Draycott Abbey series, Skye (The Ruby; 2000 Kisses) tests the waters of the contemporary scene once again with a crowd-pleasing romantic thriller. Photographer Carly Sullivan is shooting an ad on a cruise ship, and she needs to find a replacement for a less than satisfactory male model. A workaholic and perfectionist, Carly refuses to sleep until she snags the elusive Ford McKay, a self-proclaimed Wyoming rancher who is reluctant to be captured on film. However, when McKay discovers that his mission as a Navy SEAL is to protect Carly and her friend Daphne Brandon, the daughter of Santa Marina's governor-general, he realizes that the easiest way to be near Carly is to model. A sensational encounter with an all-too-sinister Russian terrorist draws McKay and Carly closer together despite the knowledge that their commitment to their careers forbids a more lasting relationship. But as Carly and McKay grow more intimate, they realize that their time-consuming professional lives have been lacking. Skye draws her characters largely through dialogue, keeping the narrative energy high and the pacing swift. Sweetly sensual and vibrant, this light read will make for delightful springtime entertainment. (Apr. 17) Forecast: Navy SEALS have become a staple of romantic thrillers, and Skye's newest is likely to attract readers who harbor a passion for the covert operations team. A generous cover quote by Joan Johnston combined with Skye's familiar name will ensure that this novel achieves exceptional sales.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful De-Stresser!, May 31 2003
By E. N. Ling "Ithaca" (Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you are looking for a romantic getaway (in your head, anyway) then Going Overboard will be hard to beat. The energy and sparkle starts from the very first paragraph and never lets up yet gives you enough breathing space to absorb the characters' personalities. This isn't heavy stuff so if you need something to lighten up your day or even complement the mood if you really are going on vacation, then Going Overboard will be just the thing. The protagonist, Ford McKay is incredible as far as the looks department goes but Skye has also made him an articulate, caring male. Not just an overload of testosterone who thinks the way to a woman's heart in this day and age is by being a jerk (for some inexplicable reason, these creatures seem to proliferate the romance genre these days!) An unexpected development - Daphne, Carly's best friend, turns out even more attractive a person than the heroine and begs to have a book of her own! I can't wait to know if this is to be!

I really liked this book as the others by this author. She writes fast-paced romantic mysteries that will keep you hooked right up until the very end. A worthwhile read!

2.0 out of 5 stars Going Way Overboard, Mar 30 2003
By A Customer
Although there were parts of this book I enjoyed, I can not recommend this book. I thought the book started out promising and interesting, but I quickly became irritated. As one reviewer mentioned, it was confusing to follow at times. The dialogue didn't always flow together into a coherent conversations. I also had to reread parts to make sure I hadn't missed a sentence (paragraph?). There were also times that I wasn't sure of the characters movements--were they still in the cabin, on the dance floor, for example. As another reviewer mentioned, the plot started getting very implausible about 1/3 of the way into it. And, finally, the editing problem another reviewer mentioned that caused a character to deliver prematurely at 11 months, was a bit confusing, too. If you would like to read Christina Skye books, I would recommend the Draycott Abbey books, which in my opinion are much better.
