From Booklist

Sookie Stackhouse is having man trouble. Her vampire boyfriend, Bill, has been distant and inattentive lately. Then he announces that he is going on a business trip, which clearly is more than it seems. After a werewolf tries to abduct Sookie at work, Bill's boss, Eric, tells her that Bill fell under the sway of his--Bill's, that is--ex, a sexy vamp named Lorena, and has been kidnapped. Eric wants Sookie's help in getting Bill back, and despite her hurt over Bill's betrayal, Sookie agrees to go to Jackson, Mississippi, to find her wayward lover. Eric has persuaded Alcide, a dashing werewolf, to get Sookie access to Josephine's, aka Club Dead, the local hangout of Jackson's supernatural element. In between dodging kidnappers, the advances of amorous Eric, and her growing feelings for Alcide, Sookie has to find out who kidnapped Bill and figure out a way to rescue him. With some droll touches--Elvis, now a vampire, is Sookie's faithful guard --Club Dead is ideal for readers who like their vampire fiction light, humorous, and fast-paced. Kristine Huntley

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, the reason I read this book ..., Sep 27 2009
By Chris (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Club Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
... is because I am a fan of "True Blood" and I will be reading the next one, too! Though the plot was suspect, there were many riveting scenes involving Bill, Eric, Weres, and blood. The prose was inviting and Sookie is an endearing character (more so in the novel than in the show). Until next time at Merlotte's!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first two....., Mar 19 2007
By Babyblue Kelly "Paperback Princess" (Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Club Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
Ok so this is the third book is Harris' southern vampire novels. In this one Sookie has to deal with the fact that her vampire boyfriend Bill is being held captive and she is forced to save him. However this comes after he may/may not have actually left her for a female vamp he used to have a thing with.
Despite the confusion she still goes to help, and in this book we encounter a new character Alcide, a werewolf and another guy who seems to be drawn to Sookie.
Of the the three books I've read in the series so far I would probably say this was my least favorite but it's still a good read. Harris' way of writing the supernatural and mixing it with humour and relatibility is fun to read and easy to get into. I know I will continue reading the rest of the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Annoying and Cutesy, Nov 5 2004
By Ez (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Club Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
When vampire Bill Compton goes missing, telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse goes searching for him in Jackson, Mississippi. Sookie is still too annoying and cutesy for my liking. (C+)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best One Yet! (Well, haven't read the 4th)
I give it a 5 of 5, not because it's perfect but because if you read the first two this book is exactly what you think it should be, hope for, and expect. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series with a sense of humore
I rate all three books so far in the series a 5. It's rare you find a good story written with a sense of humor and a protagonist who is flawed but you like and respect. Read more
