Product Description

From AudioFile

The best-laid plans of Homicide Detective Lauren Stillwell go awry when she plans a surprise lunch date with her husband and discovers heÕs about to have a nooner with someone else. Not only does Lauren get mad, she gets even by having an indiscretion of her own. Only LaurenÕs quickie is anything but brief. It takes on a life of its own that could destroy both her personal and professional lives. Mary Stuart Masterson performs this psychological suspense with a voice that has just the right understated ÒeverywomanÕsÓ quality. Masterson takes her audience along for the various cliff-hangers and plot twists and helps listeners empathize with the main character. Music cues throughout the production heighten the tension. 4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Stars for what it is - a fun quick read, Jun 5 2009
By Jacqueline Spence (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews

What I liked:
It moved very quickly, it was suspenseful, twisted and turned albeit a little predictably.
What I wasn't crazy about: it felt too short and segmented in parts as though it needed more information, but then that's what kept me reading!
4 out of 5 for being a fun nighttime-before-bed read, not a great work of literature.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mass Production, July 21 2008

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Quickie (Hardcover)

Although I usually like books by Patterson, the Quickie wasn't as good as his other novels. I found it rather flat and underdeveloped, as if the author had to make a deadline and did not have time to devote more to the story and its characters. I did finish reading it but I do not recommend it as a good reading. What I do recommend instead is Burden of Proof which I read recently. Turow's novel is just the opposite to Quickie - it is actually 'too well' developed and I would cut 100 pages of it if I could, but it is otherwise very good reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre at best...
I used to really enjoy James Patterson novels but they are all starting to run together now. The short chapters are starting to get boring, the pacing bland. Read more
