5.0 out of 5 stars Must read!, Jul 5 2005

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Bitten (Mass Market Paperback)
I was never a fan of horror or the supernatural genre. Kelley Armstrong changed all that. As I was doing my usual browsing in the store, not really having a particular book in mind, I picked this up because I'd heard of Kelley Armstrong and reading the back it sounded intriguing. I figured if I bought it I could read it anytime the mood struck. Well, as I walked around with the book in hand getting ready to buy it two people stopped me in the store (complete strangers) and told me how amazing the book was! That's never happened to me before. So I bought it, let it sit on my bookshelf for a couple of weeks and finally got around to reading it. From the first page I was hooked! I mean I've tried reading Anne Rice and she bores me to tears, but this was AMAZING! As soon as I finished it I ordered all of Armstrong's books on amazon and cannot wait to start reading her other books. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes the supernatural genre, chick lit, mysteries, action and just plain fun reads! I read the book in 2 days, unfortunately having to go to work in between...don't you hate it when work interupts a good story?! Definate must read!

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid read, worth the time and money, Mar 27 2006

This review is from: Bitten (Mass Market Paperback)
Coming into this from a Laurell K. Hamilton link, I was looking for something to round out my order to get free shipping. I thought supporting a Canadian author would be both virtuous and potentially rewarding. I was right to take a chance on this one.

Ms. Armstrong doesn't heat up the sheets like "Anita Blake", but neither do her characters get weighed down in maudlin self-pity for hundred of pages. Both attributes work to the advantage of this comfortably large read. The plot isn't complicated, but it makes sense and extends throughout the book. The relationship between the female lead and her blond-haired lover is traditionally angst-filled in the best style of romance novels. Just enough time is spent on fleshing out the personalities involved, allowing enough unanswered to merit further writing while filling in enough blanks to make the characters make sense. The world presented is interesting and a step different from many others in the genre. I could wish for a stronger female lead, but I see the potential for growth which makes her, and this author, worth watching.

Was lent a copy of "Bitten" by a friend, told was something i might like. Was she ever right, this book was fantastic. A little slow to start with, but then WOW!!. I was hooked, couldn't put it down. Once finished, went out and bought the next 3 in the series. Can't wait for the 4th.
