I was surprised by this book (not in a good way), so much so that couldn't read it. The translator, in my opinion does not really have a good understanding of the buddha dharma, or did not really do their job as a proper translator and used language that had eternalist overtones.

The songs of Milarepa are a great source of inspiration as well as a wonderful example of a mind liberated from the extremes of eternalism and nihilism and of someone who wrote of their experiences of recognizing the nature of mind. The language should be chosen carefully to reflect that, however this translation failed miserably.

I wonder if they (translators/ publishers/ whoever) were trying to appeal to Westerners as far as how religious texts are written. If so it is a mistake because Buddhism is not a religion as such, and therefore completely misleading to anyone who is new to Milarepa's words, and practically unreadable to those wanting inspiration.
