4.0étoiles sur 5 Corrective action, Janv. 14 2004
Par STEVE KIMOS (Mount Airy, MD USA) - Voir tous mes commentaires
The correct title of this novel is CUTTHROAT (all one word), and the bulk of reviews for it are listed under that title. It's unclear why Amazon maintains this entry. Further, it's unclear how a hardback edition of CUTTHROAT came to be published. It's not listed at www.specialx.net, the official Michael Slade Web site, which includes a visual gallery of all the Slade novel covers, hard- and softcover.

As for the novel itself, it's an extremely fast-paced, realistic, police-procedure yarn that verges on the cusp of sci-fi/fantasy but doesn't really go there. It's a treat to see how Slade builds suspense as he offers a piece of a puzzle at a time, presenting scenes from time periods over a century earlier than the "main" story. As with all Slades, it's very worthwhile to keep pace with the mental gymnastics.

But if you've never read Slade (how I envy you the treat if you decide to do so), start at HEADHUNTER, the first novel. It's best to read them in order of publication, and CUTTHROAT is the third novel.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Dear reader will be anxious to finish this one!, Janv. 8 2004
A series of San Francisco murders has the public in a quandary. There is a serial killer out there who seems to be some mix of man and monster. Little do we know, the killer is of an ancient dynasty whose discovery is linked to a document hidden in the belongings of a long-deceased soldier's trunk. Follow along as the connection is made, the villain is discovered and the dynasty is sought to be eliminated.

Dear reader must suffer through several hundred pages that jump between time periods with no clue as to the reason for this parallel. Interest is lost by the time the story gets going and we are more excited about finishing the task of reading the book than knowing how the story concludes.
