From Publishers Weekly

Detective-journalist Jim Qwilleran and his prescient Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum (The Cat Who Sang for the Birds, 1997) star in their 21st novel here, and while not quite as spry as ever, they're still the cat's meow. Qwill and his cats move from Pickax, where he's a newspaper columnist, to his beach house in Mooseville, probably on Lake Superior. Qwill rehashes gossip with locals and old friends, and observes Koko's odd behavior, which always forecasts an important event, although Qwill usually interprets the cat's clues retrospectively. Mooseville is abuzz with talk of the upscale restaurant opened by Floridians Owen and Ernestine Bowen, speculation about UFOs (Moose County is a sightings mecca) and puzzlement over the whereabouts of a missing backpacker, whose body Koko quickly uncovers in a sand dune. While fishing with a pal, Qwill sees Owen's boat anchored next to another; Qwill, his twitching mustache alerting him to skullduggery, suspects drug traffic. Shortly thereafter, Owen drowns. The solution to the one mystery that is resolved?that of Owen's death? comes as an anticlimax, while the mystery that's not cleared up?the fate of the backpacker?is chalked up by the locals to alien abduction. A skeptical Qwill grudgingly admits the possibility of aliens, cracking that cats, with their enigmatic behavior, may be aliens. With his 60 whiskers and gifts of perception, Koko is, as always, by far the most intelligent creature in the book. This isn't Braun's best, but her fans will adore it and only spoilsports will accuse her of, well, dogging it.

From Library Journal

In Braun's 25th "Cat" mystery, Quill is fighting rumors that aliens are visiting Moose County while feisty feline Koko keeps gazing at the stars. Very mysterious.

This review is from: The Cat Who Saw Stars (Hardcover)
This is my first and frankly my last attempt at reading a book by Lilian Jackson Braun up to now the only books that I could not stand were pulp romances. I have found a new can't stand book and this is it. I hope I never run in to the target audience. Because I do not like negative reviews I can say the binding is well made. The book is not too heavy. Oh, they also made a CD of this one.

3.0étoiles sur 5 quick read, Mai 3 2004
I found this novel to be fast reading, but not entirely captivating. This was my second "Cat Who" novels, not the best. Being a cat lover myself, I found myself chuckiling at quirky similarities between Koko & Yum Yum and my two cats.

4.0étoiles sur 5 for Moose County content less for anyone else, Janv. 22 2004
Par Jeanne Tassotto (Trapped in the Midwest) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(REAL NAME)
Jim Qwilleran, semi-retired journalist and heir to the vast Klingenschoen fortune, has decided to where to spend his family vacation. He and his family (two Siamese cats) will be leaving their Pickax residence to spend a month at the (lake)shore resort town of Mooseville, all within Moose County - 400 miles north of everywhere.

The story begins with the news that a backpacker has gone missing, followed closely by two deaths. Qwill suspects that these are not accidents but something more sinister, a feeling he seems to share with his cat. Together they begin to piece these and other smaller mysteries together despite the usual Moose County distractions of parades, Moose County family secrets and romances, until they arrive at some startling revelations.

For those who are fans of this long running series this installment will not disappoint. There are plenty of appearances by Moose County regulars, the Rikers, Derek Cuttlebrink and others, that will get us up to date on the latest county happenings. One of the long going themes of the series, the local sightings of UFOs over the lake, is brought to the forefront with Qwill being forced to re-think his skepticism on the subject.

For those who are not familiar with this series it is a very popular long running series of 'cozy' mysteries that is worth reading, just don't start with this one.
