Product Description

From School Library Journal

YA --Continuing the saga of the South African family begun in When the Legends Die (Lippincott, 1963; o.p.), Smith weaves another compelling tale of high adventure, politics, and romance in the wilds of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This new novel finds Sean Courtney leading a big game hunting expedition that is caught deep in hostile territory, where two tribal armies are engaged in battle. Courtney's fighting and survival instincts are constantly being tested throughout this action-packed story. Compassion and love interest temper the characterization of Sean Courtney, a bit of a change from his wild ways of the past. Smith's fans will not be disappointed in this addition to the Courtney chronicles, as he expertly describes the excitement and beauty of the African veldt. --Nancy Bard, Jefferson Sci-Tech, Alexandria, VA

1.0 out of 5 stars racist, Feb 11 2002
By A Customer
I picked this one up for a long train journey last week. Got half way trough it and probably would have finished it despite the predictable, boring schoolboy plot. However what really put me off the book and the author were the racist views he expresses through his (white) african heros. It didn't surprise me to learn subsequently that smith is a South African who supported the Apartheid regime there.

3.0 out of 5 stars The finish of the book ........, Nov 13 2001
By Jorge Frid (Mexico City) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is an interesting book of Africa, you learn about the land and the people there, but how many times can a person trick or be tricked by the same person?. At the end of the book he left many things at the air, for example: you really don't know what happened with the hunt company of Sean Courtney and other things.
