Nicky Wells, an international reporter, realizes during her coverage of Tiennemen Square that she's in love with freelance photographer Cleeland Donovan. Nicky is still healing from the alleged suicide of her fiance, Charles Devereaux, three years earlier. Lorelei King is the perfect choice for performing this multinational story. Having lived in England for over twenty years, she's adept at accents from both sides of the Atlantic. Nicky sounds strong, yet vulnerable, and Clee as solid as a rock. King manages to keep up the pace of the narrative even when the story lags, and she avoids the syrupy tendencies tempting any performer working with formula romance. While this is definitely a "girl" book, it's a good one. R.P.L. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine--
