From AudioFile

Narrator Eliza Foss adds plenty of heat to this contemporary romance. Supermodel Rana Ramsey attempts to escape her controlling mother and her fast-paced life on the runway by disguising herself with baggy clothes and tinted glasses and hiding away in a Galveston boardinghouse. When the proprietor's favorite nephew, football star Trent Gamblin, moves in to recuperate after surgery, Rana can't help but be drawn to the handsome and charismatic man. Foss convincingly portrays the strong Texan athlete with a sexy drawl and confident attitude. The sexual tension between the two characters is undeniable, and when they finally have an encounter, Foss's sultry rendering complements the steamy scenes. Product Description

The author of forty-five New York Times bestselling novels, Sandra Brown is one of the romance world’s most acclaimed writers. Rendezvous magazine has praised her as a novelist whose “larger than life heroes and heroines make you believe all the warm, wonderful, wild things in life.” Now, in the classic romantic tradition her fans have come to love, here is another sexy and extraordinary tale of passion--the story of a woman who gives up fame and fortune...and discovers true love in the last place she expected to find it.

The Rana Look

The modeling world called it the Rana Look...the exotic, one-of-a-kind allure that only supermodel Rana Ramsey could deliver. With her green eyes, olive skin, and wildly lustrous auburn hair, Rana posed for ad campaigns and strutted down runways all over the world, naming her own price to sell everything from cosmetics to women’s lingerie.

But all of that suddenly ended one day when she looked her demanding mother-manager in the eye and said, “Enough.” That was the day Rana packed her things and left New York--and modeling--forever. Settling in Miss Ruby’s boardinghouse in Galveston, Texas, Rana finds success with her own business--and cultivates a new look to go with her new life. Now her beautiful eyes are shielded behind tinted glasses, her famous figure hidden under shapeless dresses, her trademark wild hair falling straight down her back. Rana knows she’ll never attract a man this way, and that’s just fine with her--that is, until Ruby’s nephew, football star Trent Gamblin, moves in to nurse his injured shoulder. Ruggedly handsome, charming, and undeniably charismatic, Trent is the kind of man that Rana finds irresistible...the kind of man she is certain would never look twice at a woman as ordinary as the new Rana.

But to her surprise, Trent seems unfazed by her Plain Jane look. For he is drawn to a beauty that Rana can’t hide. He is determined to learn the mystery behind the elusive, reclusive boarder with the secret past. To do so, he proposes an unusual pact: they will only be friends, nothing more.As the days pass, Rana and Trent are drawn together in a sensual idyll unlike anything either of them has ever known. But the outside world cannot be kept at bay forever. And Rana fears that when Trent learns the truth about her past, he’ll feel betrayed and deceived. Even worse, he’ll never be able to see her as she truly is. Then an unexpected tragedy strikes, and the stakes seem higher than ever. Now they must look deep into each other’s heart to determine if their relationship is just an impossibly erotic dream--or a dream of love come true.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Romance writer above the others......., Jun 18 2004
By annmmar "ASMB" (Bronx, NY USA) - See all my reviews
I have always enjoy Sandra Brown's romance books and this one is no different. I feel like her books are believable though they are labeled romance. I enjoy the characters Trent and Rana(Ana)tremendously. The book subject was about Rana getting tired with her life as a supermodel and how she goes into seclusion for six months and rents a room far away from New York City. As usual the heroine(Ana aka Rana) fights off the attraction of Trent (the alpha male) but eventually succumbed to liking him to loving him. I like that the book teaches you that beauty is not whats only on the outside but what a man and woman character and personality is all about.

A nice, light read to curl with in the evening. Has a great love story.I especially like the intrigue created by Rana's secret hanging over her.
Another book to check out, 'Shadows of the past' by Hilda St James.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Sandra Brown Winner., Feb 3 2004
The Rana Look is a reprint of one of Sandra Brown's older novels. It tells the story of beautiful and exotic model, Rana, who leaves the modeling profession and her controlling mother. She is burned out and tired of being just another pretty face..the last straw is an arranged marriage that her mother is pushing her into.

To get away, Rana reinvents herself as Ana Ramsey...a plain, drab artist and hides herself away in a boarding house. She also takes up painting to give herself a new career..one that she is doing well at. All seems to be going well for Ana until Trent shows up at her hideaway.

Trent is like all the men that Rana had met in her life. Trent is a professional quarterback, womanizer with model good looks. He initially sees Ana as a challenge and conquest. But Ana quickly rebuffs him and forces him to see her real self and hot her looks.

Trent and Ana fall in love, but Ana is still keeping her real identity a secret. Eventually Trent finds out who she really is. Trent and Ana's relationship was touching and the characters were likable. Ana's struggle with her looks, modeling, mother and agent etc. made the book well paced and kept the storyline moving.

Even though it is one of sandra brown's older novels, it is still worth a read.

Definately not Ms. Brown's best. The book reads like a diluted version of her best work. The characters, Rana and Trent, lack depth, and the ending is very stereotypical and... Read more
