From School Library Journal

Grade 6-9 David needs to be in two places at one time: a family party for his grandmother and a date with Angela. He finds what seems to be the perfect answer to this dilemmaa machine that has the power to duplicate organic material. Without considering the pos sible ramifications, he duplicates him self. From that moment, his life be comes a nightmare. Competition, particularly regarding Angela, is fiercelike sibling rivalry, only greatly intensified. Just when readers think that things can't possibly get worse, the duplicate duplicates himself, and then there are threeand each claims to be the original. Plus, each would like to solve his problems by getting rid of the others. Sleator has done it again, writ ing an intense thriller, with horror building gradually, in which science fic tion is blended skillfully with reality. Yet the gadget that sets up the story never becomes the storythe focus is always on David. At the moment of du plication, the copy is exact, with even identical memories. As time goes along, subtle differences emerge. It is to Sleator's credit that he manages to create three closely similar, yet dis tinct, personalities. In this way, he avoids potential confusion when all three are together. Sure to satisfy Slea tor's many fans and to win him some new ones. Susan M. Harding, Mes quite Public Library, Tex.

Product Description

When David finds a mysterious machine that can copy living things, he thinks his problems are over. By duplicating himself, he can visit his grandmother and keep his date with Angela. While the other David is in school, the real one can spend the day at the beach. The possibilities are endless...and terrifying.

What begins as the solution to David's problems soon turns into a nightmarish struggle for identity. Then events take a horrifying turn that neither of the two Davids can control--and that may have deadly consequences.

This book started off horribly slow where a boy named David finds a machine to duplicate himself but the duplicate dosent solve his problems he makes them worse. The book started off too slow! It doesnt get exciting till the end. It is really boring, the only reason it got this 3 was because the last 2 chapters were good. dont wast ur money!

4.0étoiles sur 5 The Duplicate, Mars 21 2002

This review is from: Duplicate (Paperback)
The Duplicate was a very good and unpredictable book. It was about a young boy named David who was on the beach and found a machine which was called the Spee Dee Dupe. When David noticed the machine he went over towards it and he pushed a button on it, when he looked around he noticed that now their was two seagulls instead of one, they looked exactly the same. David decided to bring the Spee Dee Dupe home and see what it actually was. When it was brought home he decided to try it out on his fish, and not only now did he have one fish, but now he has two. David thought it would be cool to have someone to help him out so he didn't see how duplicating himself could be such a bad idea. You should read this book to see what David has to go through with a double of himself and what he must do to resolve it. This book is Science Fiction and it was very enjoyable, I couldn't put it down. If you don't read this book your missing out on a wonderful thrill.

It was so stupid! The author could have made it a great book. Too much detail, the story was bland, people swore. If this book was a movie, it would be PG-13. Read more
